New Executive Order - NIL Implications

This was my reaction. I don't know how it is enforceable, outside of withholding federal money and attacking accreditation. My presumption was that this was a virtue signal. - Today

Christian Pyles most disingenuous take.

Nothing you said suggests Ben would've beat Pendleton if he had to face him again. Of course Ben's stats improved after he didn't get handed 3-4 losses each year from Pendleton. Plus the fact that he sought out extra matches against lower level guys for the express purpose of padding his stats. You're also ignoring the fact that Ben redshirted and Chris didn't. In their second year on campus, they both lost once at NCAAs and then won the next two years. Give Chris that non-RS year back and he's a 3x champ and Ben is a 1x champ and this isn't even a discussion. -
And exporting. Record level exports of oil from the USA. The question is, why are we exporting oil when we are so dependent on oil imports? None of this passes the smell test. Refineries are available both in Canada and here.

2027 Big Boarders
MizzouFan01 replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in High School Wrestling
I saw that, specifically mentioned Maple. Maple has done a dang good job of recruiting and coaching. Glad to have him around. Hopefully it’s for a long time. Most importantly the recruits seem to really like him. Bachmann, does he project as a 125/133? Couple years still before he hits any campus. 141/149 to me wouldn’t surprise me. He mentioned Iowa also, so we’ll see. -

You cannot possibly compare Ben Askren junior/senior years to his freshman/sophomore years! Or Askren’s junior/senior years to Pendleton’s junior/senior years for that matter….OR Pendlton’s Freshman/sophomore years with Askren’s Freshman/sophomore years because there is no comparison!!! Askren Fresh/soph (2nd/2nd) Pendleton Fresh/soph (DNP/3rd) Someone in this thread is suggesting that Askren didn’t jump levels from his first two years to his second? he had two of the most dominating years back to back that we have ever seen. Let’s not pretend that the Askren that beat Herbert 14-2 is the Askren Pendleton faced, come on!! The Askren that won 87 straight matches including bumping up a weight to take out Kish who was ranked #1 at the time at the weight above. Two Hodge Trophies, 87 in a row 87-0…54 pins, 11 techs, 12 majors, 2 fft and only 8 decisions. He had 79 bonus wins in 87 attempts 90.8% In back to back years he had the 4th and 5th most dominant season ever Cael Sr. 5.500 Zain JR. 5.357 Neal Sr. 5.341 Askren Sr. 5.333 Askren Jr. 5.311 You can talk about one freestyle match all you want but when it came to the 06 and 07 Askren, he was unstoppable at Folkstyle. Askren did beat Pendleton once even as an underclassmen. The numbers I just threw at you were no where near what Ben did as a fresh and soph. You cannot convince me that Ben didn’t take an enormous leap after Pendleton graduated. Peak JR/SR Askren years > Peak JR/SR Pendleton years when he beat FR/SOPH Askren. Just the same FR/SOPH Askren > FR/SOPH Pendleton OR Career Askren (2-2-1-1)94 falls > Career Pendleton (DNP-3-1-1) At the very least you cannot suggest that Pendleton above Askren based on the matches Peak Pendleton had vs Young Askren. -
That's right, baby. Swimming is back. Tough start for the Americans as two swimmers dropped out due to illness and a third dropped out of an individual event to focus on a relay. Apparently during training camp in Thailand several swimmers got sick. But the highlights of tonight's (tomorrow morning - it is in Singapore) are the women's 400 Free with Katie Ledecky the fastest in the prelims, but Sumer MacIntosh just set the world record at the Canadian trials. Should be tasty. The men's 4x100 Free relay also features today. The US will be pushed hard by Italy.

The 3-Point Takedown: Friend or Foe?

Make all TDs worth less if you want more of them. -
The 3-Point Takedown: Friend or Foe?
Wrestleknownothing replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
Yes, someone could win 2-1, 3-1, with no TDs but that would be in my 1 TD category. It would only be three or more points that is not captured. And those have to be so rare as to be a rounding error. The analysis was only for NCAA tournament matches so the number of matches was nearly identical in the two periods. -
The 3-Point Takedown: Friend or Foe?
1032004 replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
I think the problem is that a lot of takedowns are scored on counters, so guys are afraid to take a bad shot then get countered and now you give up 3. In theory a way around that would be to award less points for a takedown that isn’t off your own shot, but not sure I want that, I think that’s venturing into the subjectivity of FS and the “who initiated the move” stuff which I don’t like. -
Surprised not to see Gilcher at 157 - any updates on him?

The 3-Point Takedown: Friend or Foe?
1032004 replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
I’m not sure how often it happened, but worth noting IMO that even prior to the 3 point takedown, someone could have won and scored more than 1 point without getting a takedown. Also can you confirm the total number of matches is comparable between 2022-2023 and 2024-2025? I can’t remember if more teams were still wrestling less matches in 2022 since it was the first year after the “free year.” -
So does Lock Haven take redemption stories as coaches too?

Would be worth going back and checking out Leblancs resume. Didn’t do him a ton of justice here considering he went from 0 qualifiers to 5 in one season. Big transfers landing there every season, also program was in shambles before he showed up. Out placed Campbell and UTC to be second in the conference last year. He’s the real deal

I think at 141 it is Hughes if he is healthy. Does Jamison try to go to 141 again. I hope not as he is cutting to much weight to get there and I think that explains his weak showings at the NCAAs. I think they redshirt Vega. If I am right at 141, then 149 is battle between Jamison and Swiderski. Does loser try to go to 157. 157 is interesting. We have 3 quality 149 pounders, Jamison, Swiderski, and Travis. Travis has gone up in past, but I think he is weakest of 3. Also have top recruit Robideau who is true 157 pounder. I agree with other weight classes with one possible change. Could Lockett make 157 (wrestled 163 in freestyle this summer). Then put Facundo at 165, Ryder at 174, and Thompson at 184. Part of question is how good is Thompson now after poor showing in 2023/4. All indications are that is not the way things are going to play out. -

It has been 1 month since the article was published on June 26. No comment from Starocci, Cael, or anyone from Penn State. We had Mineo say Carter is no longer part of NLWC, but looking for that tweet and it looks like he deleted it. Shocking. Maybe it is isn't true. Are we surprised by the silen
