It’s been a rough tourney once again for seniors. Kai Orine, Isaiah Salazar, Jacori Teemer and Carson Kharchla all went 0-2 BBQ. All have gotten worse with age, injuries piled up and HEW. I am against redshirts unless a guy isn’t the best at his weight class. If you are the best you wrestle. Did I miss some other past AA’s who went 0-2? Kyle Parco will be soon joining them
A perennial trophy contender the past 15 years, really struggling to compete currently. Losing long time assistant coaches Alex Clemsen and Joe Johnston has proven to be a slow decline to the program each season. Clemsen has had a slow upward trajectory at Maryland.
Some out there think Vance Vombaur will be receiving some large offseason offers similar to how Nagao was plucked previously. I hope Tyler Wells moves up and takes a redshirt vs transfer out, he’s been taking a lot of $hit with how it’s been speculated the reason he didn’t wrestle day 2 at big tens.
Individually Tyler Wells, Cooper Flynn, Ryder Rogotzke and Carson Kharchla. Wells and Flynn were ranked as high as 6-7 this year. Neither shoot anymore, weight cuts are killing them. Both move up next season.
Hot take here but Kerk gets big brothered by Gable and it’s as much psychological for him as it is physical. He’s not even competitive and looks beaten once he gets taken down everytime
Let’s be honest, how often have year 6 or later guys been as effective as earlier in there careers? Guys like Eierman and Teemer physically fell apart. Micic wasn’t effective at 141 at all. Has anyone wrestled there best season in year 6?
Tyler Wells failed to qualify and defaulted out of the 9th place bracket. Unless he’s hurt like Barr or Shane Cartagena-Walsh he should be wrestling to me as a Gopher fan. He now is banking on a at large for a 2nd straight year. He hasn’t wrestled well this season because of a massive cut. Who else needs a at large?
Vance VomBaur has basically solidified he wasn’t a fluke AA. He’s been breaking matches open. He was losing those close matches last year. By the end he was winning those matches at NCAAs with his crazy pace.
Minnesota is a better dual team as they don’t have anyone who will get bonuses regularly. Gable should get 1st with a lot of bonus. I sadly see a lot of low AA types. I see Flynn, Wells, Vombaur, Askey, McEnelly and Salazar as guys who unless multiple injuries won’t make the finals but all likely will place 5-R12. I hope Sparks can stay healthy and post a R12-R16 result along with Whiting who I project to do better as the season goes with the cut. If MN can get Gable to win and 6 other AA’s and contributions from Sparks, Whiting and Roberts we can take 2nd
I would love to see Askey drop to 149 and wrestle Millard right away at 157. Roberts is a good backup but he overall lacks scoring ability without a true go to attack to move up to a top 10 guy.
