With Garrett Joles being ranked at 197, it seems the Gophers have 0 plan at Hwt. Joles did decent there last year and the Gophers probably would do decent wrestling Gavin Nelson right away at 197. Bennett Tabor has proven to not stay healthy. No other HWT on the roster for the future, only Gabe Nagle at 197 as another option, no effort in the transfer portal for another body. He’s gotta be coming back 2nd semester or they really think high on Tabor

Why would you wrestle in college vs play football? Wrestling full scholarships are extremely rare, most of the time it’s split. Football there are 85 per team. You can’t just train hard and eat. Wrestling you may have to control your weight. Both will come out extremely beat up on the backside. There is no chance at money on the backend from wrestling unless you aspire for MMA and even so that is the few who make that money and for him he would need to shrink even more. He’s been a 220 since 8th grade. Football, sure it’s a longshot but the payout would be way more. Riley Reiff could have wrestled in college with a similar SD wrestling pedigree as a multiple time champ. He used his skill set and mindset and has made $50 million

Wrestle-offs Schedule and Results

What weight do we expect Max McEnelly and Gavin Nelson at? Salazar is at 184 which is McEnelly ideal weight. How is Tyler Wells comparatively to Jake Gliva? -
Is Aaron Brooks too short for 197?
Lunaticfringe replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Ferrari and Steveson are 6’0”, Brooks is probably 5’8 1/2. Starocci is a legit 5’10”. O’Toole isn’t a legit 6’, he’s more 5’10 1/2 to 5’11”. Parris isn’t 6’8”, he was listed at 6’2 on his Football recruiting page, no way he’s over 6’4”. -
You are one of few. Outside of the occasional Zach Sanders and Brandon Paulson, a lot of these 125’s are Jayson Ness or Nick Simmons sized

He can make 174 after wrestling 182+ since 10th grade? -
Location wise it will need to be a Mormon. What is the point of the Associate Head Coach role if they won’t give the job to them? It originally was a prestigious role for only the very top assistants such as Casey Cunningham, J Jaggers, Coleman Scott types who are a head coach in waiting. Now every team has one. I would expect Ethan Lofthouse to get the job

You can’t be posting this with a straight face as all but SVN have done interviews sounding like Joel Osteen -

Name some non bible thumpers at PSU? I can’t think of any who didn’t thank god 5x per interview. -
I do hope he gets a low AA in but something needs to change in his medical fortunes. He barely could drop to a knee to take a real shot last year and Al,ost looked in pain when clasping his hands trying to suck a leg in. He went from 17-2 with 1 loss a medical FF as his last match, to 4-9 last season.

Good riddance to him. The coaches should have pulled the plug on him midseason last year. I’m fine with Roberts Manning the spot or Blockhaus. Lee physically and mentally will never return to his prior skill set.

Koll probably left due to being vaccinated based on the time he left.

Oregon was eliminated right after Shane Webster won nationals. Nebraska Omaha won nationals as a team and at the celebration they found out the team was being cut.

as of 8/14/2023 - AA Predictions for this coming year
Lunaticfringe replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
Jayson Ness, Damion Hahn moved up mid season -
Patrick McKee to 133, cuts way too much weight. He’s way too old to be cutting like this. Jake Gliva to 125

I have heard various stories, most happened 20 years ago of Brandon Eggum kicking peoples asses big time. One story was at a beach and he chased the guy down, the guy lost his sandle and Eggum swooped it and beat him over the head with it when on the ground. Another was at a local pub with 2 other guys and he starts beating a guys ass. The other guys crew was much larger and not a single one of his friends stepped in, they just watched Eggum kick his ass. He has been out with Brock Lesnar before and he is the one getting into the fight. I am sure age and being a dad he has toned it down a bit.

2023 Transfer Portal

Sparks lack of development has shocked me. He started wrestling late and won single class California. Then came in as a true freshmen and was ranked 15-20 most of the year. He’s really only regressed since then -

Brands is 37-19 in his career, a far cry from what his expectations were coming in as a 3 time Iowa big school champion and son of a World Champ and Hawkeye legend. Heck it would have been a disappointment if his name was not Brands. He wrestled the tourney of his life to get 5th. He realistically lacks the offense necessary to jump levels and will only go down from where he was. Assad has been a bigger disappointment with his Freestyle/Greco accomplishments and being a 2x big school Illinois champion. Assad has struggled to get any offense going in B1G ten matches and has laid Eggs at NCAAs. Iowa has not done well developing guys. It seems they get better quick year 1 but then that is all -
1981, 134 lbs was a ever bigger $hitshow. As big of one as possible. Clar Anderson of Auburn st the time makes the semis. Apparently all his previous opponents thought he would lose in the semis for sure as they all missed weight on the backside to give a injured Randy Lewis a forfeit in the 7th place match. http://www.wrestlingstats.com/ncaa/pdf/brackets/NCAA 1981.pdf

Askren is very libertarian. Small government, fiscally cheap but he is more liberal on social freedom issues. -
