  1. Sometimes, part of the fun is the speculation (or blog posts!) about the hypothetical matchups. But I'm on board with this because knowing the draws in advance would facilitate sports betting and sports betting would draw more fans to the sport. The athletes and their coaches would also be able to gameplan AND do some trash talking at each other in the leadup to the tournament! A lot of things could go wrong, though. Wrestler doesn't make weight, fails medical exam, gets a last minute injury, doesn't make the trip. But still!
  2. What's Terukina's status? I saw that he turned himself in and was arrested a little over a week ago for violating his probation. Is he still on the team? While he fell short of the expectations I had for him, I thought he could still be a landmine at Nationals.
  3. This explains a lot. "Hey coach, I'm able to get to my opponents leg but have a tough time finishing when I motion and shoot left. Any advice?" "Well ya see, you gotta scramble through, and when you scramble it's bad when you don't know it's a scramble, but you can also scramble and get into scrambles and know you're in a scramble and so then you scramble through and will always get the takedown."
  4. They wrestle through the challenge tournament in all 3 styles on Friday (4/19), and best of 3 & consis on Saturday (4/20). 4/19 Session I - 10am (doors open at 8:30am) Session II - 7:30pm (doors 6pm) 4/20 Session III - 12pm (doors 10:30am) Session IV - 8pm (doors 6:30pm)
  5. I'm not a fan of Ayala's three point stance offense. Guy like Ramos will blast right through that. Speaking for myself though, I'd be A LOT more confident in Ramos if he hadn't lost to Blaze. I know, that was then, this is now. But it wasn't a great look.
  6. The staff says he's fine and the brace is just a precautionary thing. Grain of salt, though!
  7. Wasn't Varner pretty young when Snyder took his spot as our rep? I know he took some time off during that cycle but he was also the sitting Olympic champ
  8. The Aaron Nagao special
  9. Stallrotree style sounds fun
  10. I have high expectations for Siebrecht who I assume will also be back. Maybe he goes 149 though.
  11. We'll probably see Starocci with a full tree stump wrap (Starotree?) but the injury could impact his gas tank. He's already recovering from sickness and trying to get his conditioning back to normal. That'll be tough to do without the use of his leg. Time for swimming, I guess
  12. Unfortunately, I think my wife participates in fake wrasslin sometimes
  13. Where ya been all season, man? We've missed you on the College forum. Nice to hear from you.
  14. What @MPhillips said. Real wrestling, not fake wrasslin.
  15. He was probably talking out of his ass in the heat of the moment, but his limited schedule lends some truth to the idea that he's a little bored with college wrestling
  16. I would agree with that. Seems like there aren't as many shoulder injuries going around these days compared with knees. Your brother has a good eye for noticing the spaghetti wrestling. A student commenter on a broadcast made a passing comment that wrestling today can look cartoonish. You see guys literally twisted together like pretzels, each one contortedly grabbing the other's far ankle. It probably seems goofy to people who don't follow the sport.
  17. Where do folks project him in next year's lineup? I thought he wasn't crazy about having to fill out into a 184. Selfishly, I'd prefer to burn the shirt if he's good to go. While there is a very very low probability of Arnold transferring, who knows what could happen with the portal and NIL money. Esp for a guy like him coming with four full years of eligibility.
  18. I wonder if Starocci is kicking himself (with his good leg) for not competing at Senior Nationals in December. At least I don't think he was there. He famously said last season that college wrestling is fun and all, but he wants to focus on bigger things like winning a World/Olympic title. If he had competed at Seniors and placed in the top 5 he could sit out the rest of the college season and key in on being ready for trials, IF that's what's best for him. Now he's either going to have to win his fourth college title or the last chance qualifier less than 2 weeks after NCAAs while managing his descent to 74kg, just to make it to the challenge tournament.
  19. I hope Starocci's okay. It would also be pretty crazy if Edinboro is the team that stops PSU from winning another title.
  20. Same knee as last year. Didn't he have surgery on it during the offseason?
  21. Because they're in the same bracket this week
  22. Yikes. Sad news.
  23. Hard to tell how much of a difference in team score GabeArn would make instead of Riggins, but a match vs. Truax would be pretty fun to see.
