  1. This is a good point. Of the current wrestlers, it drives me nuts when Nagao throws in double boots and does essentially nothing on top. He's been doing that since high school though, and I get that it's a hard habit to break. Especially when there's probably some added BJJ muscle memory.
  2. I think he's a lock for the #1 seed at Big Tens too, but his coaches may be looking ahead and protecting his record for Nationals. Not that I agree with it, nor does Ramos need the seed protection.
  3. Great analysis. Your last sentence gets to the crux of it for me. I like Spencer's chances if he can score early and put things more or less out of reach in the first period, mostly because I'm still a little skeptical of his gas tank. If Ono can survive Spencer's first period/early second period offense and scramble tough, he can win it on speed and conditioning esp if one is put on the shot clock and has to GO late in the match.
  4. Will it have any impact on his recruitment? I assume not, but it sounds like dad could be a headache for Grey to deal with.
  5. Looks like Stanford's AD is on his way out. Hopefully, Cardinal students, fans, and alumni will get the new director to also commit to keeping its non-revenue sports https://espn.com/college-sports/story/_/id/44001495/bernard-muir-expected-resign-stanford-athletic-director
  6. Wasn't there also a Jaime Taco and a Johnny Dunkin Donuts at one point? They should all wrestle-off for the spot.
  7. Thanks. If you re-read my post though, I said OU makes a lot more than non-SEC and non-Big Ten schools. Also, I don't think the current revenue distribution #s are out but the amounts in that article are pre-consolidation and includes the Pac-12. The B1G has more schools splitting the pot than the SEC now, even with Oregon and Washington on a ramp-up revenue plan. Regardless of who makes the most though, there's clearly a big gap between B1G & SEC and everyone else. That gap will widen with the new CFP model in 2026.
  8. That's true, but there's no denying that NIL and the transfer portal has exacerbated things for wrestling. D1 wrestling is becoming a reflection of what we see in other sports: the biggest, wealthiest programs attract the best talent and everyone else becomes a feeder school. If a kid from a small program makes a deep run at Nationals and AAs (or better), there's a 100% chance that deep pocketed programs will try to lure him away. The whole concept of having to re-recruit your roster at the end of every season is exhausting. Maybe the NCAA should impose a transfer fee, similar to what the UWW does when athletes switch nationalities. New school reimburses the old program for the loss of talent (sliding scale based on the athlete's prior performance at the school) and investment in training & resources that went into developing them. The NCAA would probably get sued for it, though.
  9. It'll be interesting to see what happens with Oklahoma in the years to come. Their athletics department has tons of SEC media money pouring in, much much more than what the non-SEC & B1G programs make, so I'm curious to see how much of it trickles down to wrestling once the pay-for-play dust settles.
  10. For both guys, much of the variability lies in their draw. But all things being equal, do you slot in a 70% healthy Nelson or a 90% healthy Kennedy? I'm making up the numbers but imagine they're somewhere in that ballpark.
  11. I really enjoyed the "kid is going to be a four-timer" era.
  12. B-b-b-but AJ
  13. Nolf and Kasak have taught strategies in their camps/clinics for taking down opponents who wrestle from a knee (but I guess they didn't teach it to Starocci). Circling, drag variations, downblock & blast counterattacks, etc. I say work the optics and get the ref on your side with a simple gesture:
  14. Keuter will also be around for the 2026 football season when the B1G and SEC changes the CFP format and get 4 AQs each. $$$$$(fart noise)$$$$$
  15. Wow, the Buckeyes and Huskers really got in some reps this season. Is there a way to constrain the dataset to duals only? I'm wondering if that gives a better sense of team performance. Speaking of, hell of a great dual last night in IC. Bonus points were flying. Parco and Hamiti came very close to majoring their opponents - that would've been 9 matches with bonus. We need a dual excitement index, which is the % of matches in a dual with bonus OR the most bonus points in a dual, AND the winning team not having more than 50% of the bonus matches or points
  16. Some pretty good kids possibly entering the picture, too who may be ready to go as TF. Yianni's brother, Casey's kid, Lockett. I'm not sure what their projected weight is. Like Asher Cunningham, what does he walk around at? I can't tell if he's a future 165 or a 197.
  17. Makes sense. The situation could very well clear itself up if Keuter doesn't make the football roster cap next year.
  18. I think it's new. Amine has been pretty banged up for a while though, which might explain his performance. Malik has said that he's been trying to get healthy.
  19. Any significance to Ferentz attending the dual? I figured it's nothing, but some folks were talking.
  20. Tbf, I'm not sure Cal would've bonused Amine last night if it wasn't for the injury time. That extra escape was huge. But I also wasn't surprised by the result. He sure looked great.
  21. Life during college, too. Next season's (supposed) House settlement $ + a piece of football NIL $ could sway his decision. I wonder how it would compare to what he gets wrestling at Iowa, where he's a bigger fish in a smaller pond.
  22. Interesting example you chose to cherry pick from. Sakamoto did absolutely nothing from bottom, just lying there motionless on his belly and looking lost. I get that he's still adjusting to the style, but it's crazy that Taylor threw a kid with no mat skills out there against Ayala.
  23. I don't have any sense for where Keuter is between wrestling and football, but he'll probably be in the mix if he sticks with wrestling. The weight will clear out quite a bit next season.
