  1. Jordan Oliver? Kyle Dake? John Smith?
  2. This was my first thought right after the match. While it was the ideal result for Brands (won the match, but not convincingly; won the dual; rested Gabe) it also raises Angelo's NIL stock and deleverages Iowa a little bit. I was fully expecting AJ and the rest of the fam to be tweeting about getting bigger bags next season. Fortunately, Angelo seems to love the environment at Iowa and thinks he's gaining a lot by being in the room. So who knows
  3. Ah yes, who wouldn't travel halfway around the world to train with Josh?
  4. Pretty wild that he's good to go already. Didn't be bust his elbow? That's not typically a quick heal.
  5. Who is Ono rolling with in the PSU room? I assume Ono made plans to train at PSU to be near Cael & Casey, and maybe practice with Gilman. But Gilman's gone and Cael, Casey, and Nick are busy with the college season. I'm not sure what he's getting out of training at Penn State that he doesn't get in Japan, aside from maybe getting some folkstyley feels and dodging projectiles coming his way. I think Fix and Ono would be a pretty good match too, mostly because RBY's style is closer to Ono's and it would be interesting to see if it helps him to gameplan against zippy guys who work from space. As for the match, Ono is a boss, but Spencer can win by owning the center of the mat, getting Ono called for passivity, and forcing him to engage. The counterattacks and scrambles will be fireworks both ways.
  6. It's not like football. But tbf it probably fills seats when PSU comes to town no matter how cupcakey the home team is.
  7. Follow-up poll: Will the most deserving wrestler win it? Should the criteria be suggested guidelines?
  8. Imma pull for Keuter because something something irony something something Gable beaten by football again
  9. I assume the OP was asking if Starocci could take Keck... out to lunch, and the answer is clearly NO. I don't know what kind of NIL money Starocci's making, but Keck looks like he can EAT. No one's gonna want to get stuck with that bill!
  10. Ctrl-F "Dake" = not found. Wow!
  11. How's his noggin? It seemed like a pretty serious concussion. I wouldn't be surprised either if he moved up to 74kg (if he's still wrestling). Gives Vito the opportunity to bump up to 65kg. He's not the same wrestler when he's sucked down at 57kg/125lbs.
  12. Jim Gibbons says it's a crotch lever
  13. I think Bob Dole put this one together last year: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/17IfMQrV0_chH-X1GH8NwS3LxquvFpeuJyMkP4pgFszA/edit?usp=sharing Try downloading and updating the brackets
  14. IIRC, MM had a last second takedown that was waved off and would've been a major. Anyway, Amine won't be able to wrestle at CHA like he did against MM at Nationals without getting stalled out. It like he was trying to avoid being blown out than actually win the match. I picked Cal over Amine by dec a couple of pages ago; just saying that if anyone has a chance of bonusing Amine, he's the guy.
  15. I forget what the VakLeague's entry fee was, but it might be fun if the board setup a separate tournament pool where the winner gets to pick a wrestler who will receive the pot of money in an individual NIL deal. Winner also gets creative rights to the NIL terms, like the wrestler could do a 30 minute AMA thread on here, make a customized signed image, or record a video of him smashing a cinnamon-flavored pastry with a sledgehammer. Something like that, idk
  16. Agree with all of this, though we saw MM absolutely break Amine last season with his pace. Caliendo knows this, and if anyone else at the weight is capable of pushing tempo against Amine, it's him.
  17. Couldn't they at least have called it Hawkeyescream?
  18. Is that true? My impression is that ASU's AD is a supporter of wrestling. I know he's a baseball guy and is very hands-on with basketball, but he seems pretty happy with Zeke as long as he brings back conference hardware and finishes with some AAs. ASU Wrestling won't get the attention or funding that a program like Iowa does, but I don't think there's an expectation to win Nationals either. It probably comes down to how Zeke is feeling. He's well-respected at Arizona State and seems to be pretty comfy where he's at, esp given the current stage of his career. OTOH, I wouldn't be surprised if he's getting tired of all the NIL and portal BS, new NCAA rules, constantly fundraising, and the other overhead that comes with coaching these days.
  19. Would be fun to see this dual come down to the wire: 125: Cruz dec Spratley - 3-0 Hawks 133: Ayala maj Witcraft - 7-0 141: Jamison dec Schrock - 7-3 149: Parco dec Young - 10-3 157: Fish dec Estrada - 10-6 165: Caliendo dec Amine - 13-6 174: Hamiti maj Kennedy - 13-10 184: Plott dec Ferrarnold - 13-13 197: Buchanan dec Surber - 16-13 Hawks 285: Hendrickson tf Kueter - 16-18 OSU
  20. MM beat Mantanona by a major decision about a week and a half ago. I do think Mesenbrink should be in the conversation for the Hodge. Imo, "# of offensive points given up" pretty good indicator of dominance and control, and would like to see it considered in the Hodge metrics, along with bonus rate, etc. I believe MM, Gable, Kerk, Keck(?), Ramos, and Hamiti have yet to be taken down or turned this season. Not sure about Starocci or Hendrickson or anyone else.
  21. Was Ybrarra also upsetting to you? How about Estrada? I hope we see the full lineup against Okie State though, load management be damned.
  22. Meanwhile in Champaign... It's Senior Night at the University of Illinois! Tonight, we honor our senior captain Lucas Byrd (who may still have another year of eligibility after this season) for his leadership and inspiration. His singlet will hang from the ceiling of Huff Hall (pending his winning an NCAA title) for all to see! Please direct your eyes above center mat for the unveiling!
  23. Load management. IWB will come back come tournament time.
  24. Oops, sorry so B1Gish
