  1. The conference just finalized settlement with Clemson and FSU yesterday. How will this impact wrestling? Under the terms of the settlement, 60% of the ACC's media revenue pot will be weighted and distributed to the teams with the highest tv viewerships for football and basketball. Football accounts for about 75% of the ACC's media revenue so the calculation will be mostly based on football ratings. The remaining 40% of the ACC's revenues will be shared under its normal sharing model. My feeling is that it's not exactly a great deal for the ACC wrestling schools. Duke, UNC, NC State, Pitt, Stanford, UVA, and VT aren't exactly the powerhouse football programs that dominate the league and draws huge audiences, so their athletic departments will likely see smaller revenues going forward. Especially worrisome is Stanford. They joined the ACC under a deal that pays out only 30% of media revenues for the first 7 years, then 70% and 75% in the 8th and 9th year, then their full 100% share beginning in 2034. To receive even less than that is cause for concern. To throw another wrench in the works, Stanford's AD is also on his way out. It does not feel great for wrestling.
  2. Are you or your dad Pablo from UWA?
  3. Did Iowa need some extra time to finalize their lineup, or what?
  4. Wow, that's a pretty huge vacuum out west, and the D2 map doesn't look much better. Not to hijack the topic but it's sad to see that outside of club sports, there are zero opportunities to wrestle in college in the state of Nevada. Idaho and New Mexico have 1 each. Montana and Utah, 2. Arizona and Wyoming, 3.
  5. What's the story with Jordan Decatur these days? Is he healthy?
  6. It was kind of funny that people would spell Diakomihalis correctly but write "Yanni"
  7. Dunno if it's a rift as much as it it is mini-cliques which you see in other rooms. RBY sort of did his own thing and didn't seem to like hanging out with his teammates. Suriano, Cassar, Starocci give a similar lone wolf vibe. Spencer was criticized for not getting along or practicing with the rest of the team, by Ayala's mom no less, but now he & Drake drill together regularly. Prioritizing yourself first just sort of comes with the sport. Not to get all Louden Swain or anything
  8. ICWYDT... One's youngest just transferred to a JC so maybe he'll be back in the forums soon. Dunno about the other. You know this is a fake TBar account because the real one would've slipped some Iowa shade/PSU homerism into his post or would be instantly throwing hands with H3!
  9. This is awesome. Thanks! The query based on ranking >= 13, not a prior AA, and who have had the biggest jumps in the rankings over the last x weeks? Asking because if there's a way to see which weights have the most losses in the #1-12 ranks, or the biggest ranking changes from say, 3-15, it would an interesting view of which weights the analytics indicates is the most wide-open - then that could be applied to the dark horse list to see who got a better chance at landmining a bracket.
  10. There's a real defenestration epidemic going on in Russia. Man wtf
  11. He taunted his opponent and got into a fight after winning No Gi Worlds. I'm no PD3 fan, but after being DQed from the tournament he said he was done with the IBJJF so this announcement is pretty much just a formality.
  12. Who do you think will wreck some brackets at NCAAs or their postseason tournaments? My picks are kind of lame because they're all familiar names from big conferences. Would love to hear about any diamond-in-the-rough types to look out for. But just off the top of my head: Sam Cartella (Northwestern, 149 RSFR): great underrated wrestler imo flying a little bit under the radar since the weight is somewhat stacked. Big Tens will be tough no matter what his draw is, but I think he'll qualify for Nationals and AA. Kysen Terukina (Iowa State, 125 SR): similar to Cartella, his conference tournament will be more brutal than the NCAA tournament. I don't think it would be too earth shattering to see him landmine some brackets at NCAAs, but I think he finishes his career at ISU strong and can AA. Maximo Renteria (Oregon State, 125 JR): I don't remember how many allocations that Pac-2 has at this weight, but I think he's a better wrestler than his record indicates with a lot of close matches that could've swung either way. I think he's good for a big upset or two if he qualifies for Nationals. Cobe Siebrecht (South Dakota State, 157 SR): Dunno what happened to him since leaving Iowa but the weight is very much up for grabs and I'd like to see him make some noise at NCAAs.
  13. I was wondering what happened to him, too. He was a good dude and I enjoyed his contributions. Big loss for our community.
  14. Not sure, but I think Otto was supposed to be the high-powered 141, but he just transferred to a JC and it's not even clear that he was ever enrolled at Iowa. Contingency was probably Rotchy or Estrada, but they can't make the weight. Brands will probably shop the portal for a 1-2 season rental. Dunno if BB would go 141 the year after next.
  15. Maybe he could use a change of scenery... switch RTCs or go train with international clubs to add to his repertoire and evolve his style. I also won't discount that Synder is happy where he's at and the results he's getting. While winning gold medals is the ultimate goal, he's still out there competing and making the world team, he's got sponsors, and he's got family and his bible bros supporting him. Snyder's been having fun and making a living doing what he loves, which isn't the case for a whole lotta people. We had this same discussion about JB not so long ago.
  16. Yes, Iowa and tOSU are well aware of the Nickal crisis
  17. Something something Fought Knox something something No Gold
  18. Spencer did it a few years ago, and missed having 100% bonus in the regular and postseason if he didn't beat Brandon Courtney by "just" 7-0 in the NCAA finals. I think Taylor may have also, but that might have been just beyond the last decade. There are probably others who would've had 100% bonus had they competed in the 3pt takedown era. Nolf and Stieber come to mind.
  19. I thought Ono held back a little bit in the back half of the match as well. I figured it was a combination of discipline like you mentioned, and not putting it all out there and giving Spencer any more of a feel for his wrestling.
  20. Ono said he will try to qualify for U23 Worlds next month, so we'll see which weight he ends up at. I believe the U23 qualifier in Japan is around the same time as the Senior Asian Championships, and I don't think he'll be at both. Kinda wild to see Ono and Higuchi being gun shy about this year's Senior Worlds but I guess it's pretty early in the cycle.
  21. Wasn't this when Spencer was still banged up? I mean who knows how much of a feel either got for the other. I get that Ono may be scouted by now for his unorthodox setups and what not, but it's hard to gameplan for his speed & strength.
  22. Yeah, it makes logical sense, I just wanted to see the match and think Ramos would probably be in good shape seeding-wise for NCAAs regardless. It's too bad there's no good way to give "quad 1" type wins (like basketball) much more weight without punishing wrestlers in less stacked conferences.
  23. This is a good point. Of the current wrestlers, it drives me nuts when Nagao throws in double boots and does essentially nothing on top. He's been doing that since high school though, and I get that it's a hard habit to break. Especially when there's probably some added BJJ muscle memory.
