  1. C'mon now. You don't believe that. That is for checks and balances to solve. Electoral college to elect the president is just a vestige of the 3/5ths compromise. Electoral college itself is tyranny.
  2. Is anyone else repulsed that expansion of this to 80% of the country that is not a swing state has no practical effect on the election?
  3. "The tree of democracy must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of candidates" Thomas Washington
  4. We've had this Perkins County discussion.
  5. They don't come over 10k/day to mow lawns and put on roofs in December. The foremen building houses and pouring concrete are bilingual, as are lots of construction workers independent of documentation. Farm equipment is high tech, but operation is not. Taking away the employers is another way to stem the flow, but there is a lot of nuance there.
  6. IDK. Overstayed their visa? Walked from Venezuela? Broke Mexican law? Didn't cross from Mexico - A Norwegian who went from Quebec to Maine to Mexico, with a stopover on Martha's Vineyard?
  7. I read a bit about this law(Texas SB4). Some of it it looney tunes. For example, after you are convicted and serve your sentence you are taken to a Mexican port of entry for deportation. Even if you aren't Mexican. I think it is a gigantic troll and they're banking on it being overturned.
  8. Objectively? Crops rotting in the fields or not getting planted in the first place. Construction coming to a halt. Restaurants shutting down everywhere.
  9. I recall a law like this in AZ. It was overturned, although I don't remember whether it was because of the inherent bias in enforcement or that a state doesn't have the standing to enforce such a law. I suspect this law might be an elaborate troll.
  10. There is this, but it only provides a template for Open results.
  11. I am not a fan of this lawsuit, but the law is the law and the courts are the place to settle it. Apparently, his entire campaign is riding on a SCOTUS decision.
  12. Mexicans don’t need a visa to enter Canada, so they’ll be welcome. Not sure about all the other nationalities. That number is 597, so NY is more than pulling their weight. El Paso is pretty close to 700k.
  13. Some claim a certain QB created a distorted view of his skills!
  14. Yes. I think, in general the sanctuary cities/states fund extensive programs for migrant support. I was able to find some numbers for Chicago, Denver and NYC. However, I didn't find numbers for the states in bold (TX, AZ, FL). I am not saying they don't exist, just that I question them. Seems like something Abbot would cry very loudly and bitterly about. More than Adams does.
  15. The point in question is whether they are housing them with tax funded programs.
  16. Ohio has a congressional delegation and that is where the law is established. By your own barroom napkin math, ny is shouldering way more than their fair share.
  17. For me, the point of the discussion is whether US law allows for states to set their own immigration policies and what the limits should be if it does.
  18. I think the number is 60000 but many times that have cycled through. Most are on their own, I assume.
  19. NYC is housing 10s of thousands of migrants, consistent with their policy and not out of step with federal law. Many of them sent directly from TX by TX. Should they be able to make immigration law to enable the migrants to work and alleviate the financial burden of their policy?
  20. Each state gets to make it's own immigration policies?
