Nor is it particularly evident in this thread. Tesla is an overvalued meme stock. It losing value is the market function as it should. The state of MN does not directly own any Tesla Stock. The holdings they are referring to is that of the MN State employees pension fund. Even that does not directly own any Tesla Stock. It owns index and mutual funds that own Tesla Stock. The Tesla Stock that was quoted in absolute terms in the OP are less than 2% of the holdings in these funds and less than 1% of the overall pension fund. Many people who buy index funds would never purchase Tesla stock directly because they see it as an overvalued meme stock that is headed to $0 long term. Gov Waltz's positions are less than 1% contradictory here.

Lol. They are really stretching with this. Those holdings are in an index fund and an actively managed fund. Tesla is less than 2% of holdings in both funds. These are just two of several funds held by the state pension fund. Tesla represents less than 1% of the pension fund. The state pension fund is going to be just fine. Nothing wrong with an over valued stock falling in price. That's how things are supposed to work. -

I don't think they rescore the season. It's more likely that they vacate wins. Isn't that more customary when a team uses an illegal player? Couldn't they get sued by the alternate or the pac-12 runner up if they let him wrestle?

Congress passed the Foreign Assistance Act on September 4, 1961, which reorganized U.S. foreign assistance programs and mandated the creation of an agency to administer economic aid. USAID was subsequently established by the executive order of President John F. Kennedy, who sought to unite several existing foreign assistance organizations and programs under one agency Maybe don't get your news from Insurrection Barbie. Kennedy did it because congress passed a law that said he had to do it.

"Erikson defeated Carlton Haselrig, 7-3, and then pinned him in 3:20." I think this was the finals of the challenge tournament. Erikson then lost to Baumgartner in the trials final. https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/1988/06/18/smith-advances-into-finals/62648595007/

That's right. Dake lost his freshman and sophomore years, Brooks lost his 3rd and 4th years, Stieber lost his true freshman, RS freshman and RS junior years, and Diakomihalis lost his freshman and senior year. I was more pointing out that Smith didn't lose his 4th year either whilst he was on redshirt. Though much like Diakomihalis he didn't wrestle much if any folk style during his redshirt. Of the 4xers that used a red and or grey shirt Smith, Diakomihalis and Starocci were undefeated in folk style during their redshirt year. Short sighted isn't how I would put it. For large portions of the history of NCAA wrestling one couldn't just opt out of the conference tournament and still wrestle for at NCAAs. It isn't really possible to be an undefeated national champion that didn't win your conference tournament. There is a good chance he could have won it and and even better chance that he would have been able to qualify, but keep in mind that whilst he was good enough to win NCAAs two weeks later he didn't look that great on the first day. He gave up TDs in both of those matches. This would have been two weeks before that so maybe he isn't able to complete the comeback in those matches. An undfeated champion from the Big Ten would have to win at least 3 matches. I am sure the risk of a set back that could impact his chance to win NCAAs played a roll in the coach's decision. I was referring to undefeated season not NCAA titles and including last year as "undefeated" and assuming he wins this week. Not all 4xers won in their first 4 years of eligibility. Aaron Brooks did not win an NCAA title the first year he used a year of NCAA eligibility. Again I was referring to undefeated seasons. He only has 4 undefeated seasons because he benefited from an extra opportunity. Sanderson is the only one to go 4/4 on that. Had Retherford been afford a similar opportunity there is a good chance he could have added a 4th. Still it's not the same as actually doing the thing, much like Starocci at Big Tens last year. One can't give Starocci that Big Ten title nor can we hand Retherford an undefeated season. Starocci might have the second best NCAA career, but best ever leaves room for interpretation. Others like Stevenson, Snyder, and Smith won world titles in college. They just a had a few bad days or didn't have it all put together their first year like Sanderson and the other 4xers, but they were just as good if not better at their peak. 3xers from back in the real old days probably don't get much consideration here because very few were around back then. If that rule change had happened less than 40 years ago we'd see that argument more.

Lol, you're right. Saw the video too. Just looks like a guy on his way either to or from a flight. Calling the FBI would be a waste of time -

There would be an investigation to determine the motive since a terrorism charge requires proof of motive to be successful. That said since the FBI is looking for this guy and not the local police I would guess that he's done this to more than 1 car to attack their attention. -

Which states? -
All of Pat Smith's losses were his freshman year. He then went unbeaten his sophomore, junior, RS junior, and senior seasons. A 98 match unbeaten (1 tie) streak. I think people are maybe not so high on Starocci's streak because if this were the 1990s, the 2000s or part of the 2010s it would be impossible for him to opt out of wrestling the conference tournament like that. Also his 4 years were the last 4 of 6. Some 3xers could be able to join him if they had been allowed to wrestle another season. Zain Retherford might have done it. Nolf too if injury defaults don't really count. Virtually any 4xer and 3xer would have been a heavy favorite to repeat if given an extra year.

Removing information because it's DEI

I believe it was in error. A rather embarrassing and avoidable error. Likely an automated process of removing the word "gay" from official government material that didn't involve much human intervention didn't recognize the context and that it was a proper noun. -
I wonder how this happened. I had been thinking that Brennan and Little Rock just wrestled him either thinking he had eligibility or trying/hoping to slip past the NCAA. In that case he made it farther than anyone would have guessed, but he has to be DQed and any event where he represented Little Rock either forfeited outright or rescored with a forfeit at that weight. On the other hand if Brennan and Little Rock applied for an injury year/6th year waiver like Humphries and the NCAA being so used to rubber stamping those applications accidentally approved his then I think you have to let Brennan wrestle. They can't do takesie-backsies after 95% of the season had been wrestled and tuition and scholarships have been paid. Humphries would understandably feel wronged here, but maybe he still doesn't have any remedy.

I think only the D3 champs and D2 finalist. A seed was not guaranteed.

I don't think it is possible for him to redshirt this year. He was in the high school class of 2022 and there is only a 1 year grace period to enroll unless you stop practicing/training in the sport (mission/military service/playing some other sport/ect). I think he had greyshirted at OSU in 2023 and then wrestled at Hawkeye WC last year before enrolling at wrestling at LIU this year. So he would have had to use his redshirt year last year and wouldn't have the 5 dates available this year

I get that in the case of USAID spending might be far removed from the average American. We don't see any of the money and it's easy to classify it as waste. The Department of Education isn't like that. Over half the budget goes to the office of federal student aid. I know many many people who received federal aid for college. I used a Stafford Loan as did my siblings and parents. I would be pretty shocked if you didn't personally know anyone that received federal aid for college. Anecdotally it seems like a lot of money finds its way to students. With 75% waste not even half of it could actually reach students. I don't know that this is true, but even if this is true it seems like it's applicable to K-12 education which is less than half of the ED budget. Below are some long term trends in reading and math scores for 9 year old students. It seems like scores had a generally upward trend in both disciplines until 2020. The 2020 and 2021 school years had some unique challenges related to the pandemic and remote learning, but perhaps when Biden took office the ED pivoted to Bureaucrat/Consultant/Dem kickback/NGO fraud/waste/abuse and that caused the drop in scores.

I didn't give a number for the overall budget. I agree with your figure of $268 Billion for the overall budget for 2024. I said that the largest item in that budget is $160.7 billion that goes to the office of federal student aid. Are you disputing that as made up Sparty? Other than forgetting the B the first time wrote it I think it's pretty accurate. I didn't have a problem with her saying $280B for the overall budget or even the inconsistency between saying 25% of $280 makes it to students and $220B alleged wasted to Bureaucrats/Consultants/Dem kickbacks/NGOs. Taking her numbers to characterize fraud as conservatively as possible it would be $70B going to students and $210B in Bureaucrat/Consultant/Dem kickback/NGO waste. This would mean that at most $70 billion of the $160.7B budget of the Office of Federal Student aid makes it to students as aid/work study/grants/loans with $90B in Bureaucrat/Consultant/Dem kickback/NGO waste and nothing else the ED spends money on makes even a dollar back to students. The other 40% or more of the budget is 100% Bureaucrat/Consultant/Dem kickback/NGO waste. That doesn't seem possible. It would mean that the Office of Federal Student Aid could only deliver $70B in aid annually to students. The office reports over $100B in aid delivered every year for over 5 straight years. Explain the apparent discrepency?
-
This lady's numbers don't add up. It's total nonsense. The largest item in the ED budget is $160.7 to the Office of Federal Student aid. How is there $220 billion let to give to consultants that donate it back to the democrats and other consultants and NGOs like she says? It's not possible and she is making it up.

The Big Ten schedule is tough, but competitive balance and conference realignments have changed over time in addition to scheduling practices of the top programs. It was the Big 8 back when Smith wrestled and his first three years the Big Ten was actually a 10 team conference - no PSU, no Nebraska, no Rutgers, and no Maryland neither. OSU wrestled the best team in the Big Ten, Iowa, every year. I don't think he would gain anything from a Big Ten schedule. A similar argument could be made of Sanderson. It was the Big 12 during his career and the Big Ten was the original 10 plus Penn State, but the Big 12 was just as competitive. ISU, OSU, OU, and Nebraska were all top 10 teams at that time. Just as tough as the Big 10 and ISU always wrestled at least Iowa. Comparing the most recent 4xers to the past 4xers you need to look at the difference in scheduling. Today PSU doesn't schedule any in season tournaments for their starters and hasn't participated in the National Duals during the careers of either Aaron Brooks or Carter Starocci. The only time either wrestled in one of the top in-season tournament (CKLV, Midlands, Southern Scuffle) was when they were competing unattached. Brooks DNPed at Midlands his greyshirt year and Starocci won the Scuffle his redshirt year in a rather weak field. They are the only 4xers without a win at one of these tournaments on their official NCAA record. The difference in scheduling also had them wrestling fewer matches overall. Brooks and Starocci have far and away the fewest career matches of the 4xers and they both wrestled 5 official seasons. It's hard to give Brooks and Starocci bonus points for a Big Ten schedule when they also had the easiest tournament schedule and the fewest overall matches. They didn't run the table at their conference tournament either. Brooks won 4/5 times at Big Tens and Starocci only 3/5. All the other 4xers were 4/4 except Dake (3/4).

Perhaps Haselrig won the espior or university national title at Greco Roman in 1985 and freestyle in 1986. These are the only international results I was able to find for Haselrig. I wonder if he wrestled Karelin in 1985.
-
That makes sense for k-12, but who would administer the FAFSA and associated aid in such a system? Musk had said of the Department of Education that “No such department exists in the federal government” seeming to indicate that the ED wouldn't be around to do that.

How is this relevant? The match took place Maple's senior year. Maybe it's more impressive than beating Maple, but that's not really the point and it's not so much that it is a chack against Starocci as it is a chack for Stieber. Stieber could have wrestled Devin Carter at the All-Star match and maybe retrospectively that would look like a more difficult match, but at the time he chose to go up and challenge the returning national champion. It was a risk to make a match we weren't going to happen otherwise. To me that's a point for Stieber. Sure Keckeisen is a tough match, but it's a match we are expecting to see at NCAAs. Stieber ended up beating Carter in the NCAA final, so there really shouldn't be any regret on him passing on that match at the All Star Classic to challenge Maple. Carter lost to Tony Ramos who was also wrestling up in the 141lb match at the All Star Classic. Stieber was undefeated in his career against Carter, Ramos, and Maple. He took the most challenging/interesting match. To me Ferrari plays into this in that Starocci clearly had the chance to make this match and did not. That's a chack against him in comparison to Stieber who did the opposite when presented with a similar opportunity. Stieber could have stayed at 141 and called out Maple to drop, but even that would have made more sense than what Starocci did. Maple had made 141 less than a year prior. Ferrari last competed at 184lbs never. To just about everyone it is clear why Ferrari didn't take the offer - he could not make 184lbs. I am sure he was not certified to compete at 184 this season. It was a non-offer. I think you're right that Ferrari skipping dates this year was somewhat related to the Starocci-Ferrari all star match not happening. He likely skipped dates because he has trouble making 197lbs!
