  1. Hmmm... That does sound vaguely familiar. As I recall there was also a controversy over the number of shots taken and when. I seem to remember when I saw the bout sheet after the match (I was at the head table) and seeing how the refs marked shots taken.
  2. Yes and no. When I reffed (late 70s early 80s) I definitely remember the 1 pt hand to hand. But I also remember in my learning stages questioning the muckety-mucks about why we'd give 2 when the kid was spun through but was sitting up.
  3. Posted same in the other thread but I don't see him on the roster or in the OPC. Was he planning on this semester?
  4. I don't see him on the CSU-Bak roster or in the OPC. Was he planning on this semester?
  5. A few random thoughts- Most people that watch freestyle/greco are probably watching the Olympics/Worlds or years ago (70s/80s) when there would be a USA/USSR dual somewhere locally. Most of the time both wrestlers are so good that you won't see much happen. When you watch HS/College (esp HS) most bouts are mismatches so you can get excited. Plus there's the parochial aspect of it in HS/College that creates a bias. Yes, we are biased towards the USA but we didn't generally know our guys that well (current video helps us learn the newer guys). I would probably favor intl style returning to some limitation on repetition of moves like guts/laces. Especially in greco where the refs might make an arbitrary decision on who to call passive first which leads to the end of match without giving the other guy a shot at same. Over the last several years when step outs were introduced, most people were concerned about it but after working with it most seem to like it. It's not a lot of bouts that only have step outs and it forces people to stay on the mat.
  6. Mocco scored 14 points in 18 seconds! Only 10 counted he did two more leg laces before the ref could catch up with him.
  7. The Immigration Portal?
  8. Maybe you can share the lost expenses with WKN!
  9. He isn't on the roster yet but I suppose in these situations they have to be sure he's enrolled. Also, their site only lists one coach. Wouldn't you think they'd need to assign someone to handle AJ by himself?
  10. Roger didn't resign. He will retire AFTER this year and then will be replaced by Valenti.
  11. I think 2001 or a year or two after was the first. I believe they got the idea from St Louis in 2000. Union Station (former train station and a collection of stores and restaurants) was right down the street from the arena. So people could just park once a day and walk to the station between sessions and hang out. At the time Union Station was great for this. As time went on it kind of deteriorated but the NCAA started adding the Fan Fest to accomplish the same thing.
  12. That's all it shows on UWW also
  13. Silvestri (The challenge lost guy) did emphasize the Lost syllable and not the others. But this version of French doesn't look flat!
  14. Strength and conditioning are obviously important in this sport. But we're so far behind in technique and the international styles rely on technique. Rules are set up to enhance technical advantages. Years ago (60s/70s?) there were 3 3 minute periods. When the Americans started to surge they cut it to 2 periods (and 1 5 for a short while). And even when our conditioning started to make a difference the Soviets seemed like they could score while tired. I don't want this to sound like American wrestlers and coaches don't know the techniques but our reliance on competing rather than training means we might know the moves but can't use them when they count.
  15. I was wondering if he was saying that what they were showing was from the wrong period but as JB said- the time was clearly around 2:00 left which puts it in the 2nd period. Or was he saying that what they meant to argue was from the first period? It was far too late to argue something from the first period.
  16. And the Davidson article shows the same posting date/time as before the edit!
  17. Yesterday, Davidson wrestling has an article showing Stutzman as Head Asst and Clothier as asst. Wonder if Clothier will also switch to Bloom since he was Stutz's asst at Buffalo. Davidson article now only mentions Clothier.
  18. That's what it says on his IG (no, I don't follow him- his IG is public). He shows himself in a CS-Bak singlet doing his split (uses more fingers this time).Captioned as The Most Anticipated Comeback Celebration of All Time. But a comment below says he will decide within a week or so - comment was about two weeks ago.
