We’ll likely never know what happened behind the scenes at OSU. Theyve been tight lipped about the whole fiasco. Maybe former staff will shine some light one day but maybe not. It would be interesting to see if AJ would sacrifice his social media in order to wrestle. I’m just listing things I think would actually help the young man grow as a person. Of course they won’t happen though.

Exactly. Most people aren't experienced with wrestling or combat. And many of those that are into combat prefer striking. Plus with swimming you know what you're getting - people racing in the pool. With wrestling it could be exciting or boring, there could be throws or pins or stalling. Same with gymnastics - most people haven't done it, but you know what you're getting. It's easy to absorb for the casual viewer. If Olympic wrestling included some kind of exhibition event where the athletes demonstrate certain moves, that could actually bring in the casual viewer. That's exactly what swimming and gymnastics are doing - demonstrating the sport. There's so many cool moves in wrestling that are hard to pull off, and so a wrestling match may or may not demonstrate anything interesting.

It's just a lot for a coach to take on. The dad will meddle, the middle brother has committed multiple violent crimes, the sister messed around with AJs teammate and caused a blow-up, AJ comes across as 100% narcissism & 0% self-awareness, and it'll all be posted on social media. And for what, a potential All American finish at 197? If I were bringing him in I'd suspend his social media use and have him volunteer and attend weekly counseling. Get his head out of the clouds. Or maybe I'd bring him in to intentionally blow up my program lol

Reefer madness is over in the USA and federal officers are not patrolling the national forests looking for pot smokers. Weed farms yes, campers getting high no. If it’s illegal in your state or if you are underage you can definitely get popped by local law enforcement though. That’s a real risk.

All possibly true but there’s many dominoes in your scenario so no I don’t think anyone should root against Bo for the reasons listed. PSU fan or not it’s hard to root against a wrestler in anything.

Kind of a weird premise. Money isn't an issue for PSU. Nor is having their alumns find success. So it's weird to think people should root against Bo Nickal for those reasons. I'll root against him because he's turned into a self pandering pot stirring edgelord. But I also don't really care enough to root against him.

More simping for AJ? I don't see it. He's literally a daily risk to any room, fanbase, administration, and the coach's job. The only reason for any coach to take him at this point is to try and help the young man. Or if the coach shares the same narcissism.

Anyone taking AJ at this point will be taking him on as a project… not for wrestling results. He’s a known quantity anymore and not beyond rehabilitation but certainly has a long ways to go and will need lots of guidance.

No idea but hunch is that it’s legal for you to offer but less legal for someone to accept it. Also with no binding contract you wouldn’t actually have to pay anybody.

As a Pokes fan I agree. OSU wrestling style in my mind is still based in the 90s and early 2000s - fast paced, tough, and lots of attacks. Spratley is a good current example of this. Notsomuch the "defense first" strategy. From DT's press conference it sounds like he wants to encourage this style of scoring - it's okay to give up a takedown as long as you score more than your opponent! Seems so basic but I agree that in Perry's time as OSU coach we've seen less emphasis on this style. Who knows about Carroll. Waited until the last day so it's obviously a loaded decision. Maybe its the coaches, maybe its the transfers, maybe its a perceived equity thing. Shouldn't be the weight issue though since he was going down before the coaching change.

Just giving my two cents on the topic. If there is a legit concern that the board is dying, wrestling content and enthusiasm for the sport is the way to keep it alive. I’m sharing this perspective because I’ve seen a few discussion boards die (hobby and work related) and there’s no reason this one can’t thrive… I’m not here to troll yall Of course maybe I’m misreading it all lol. I’m just wondering what this forum has to do with any fanbase. There’s like 100 people here on a busy day. Most fanbases IRL are pretty similar, well meaning alums and townies with a few drunks and jerks mixed in.

Nobody screwed him over. It was his choice to leave and coach with his mentor. And it was clear from the time he arrived that no promises were made to him, verbal or otherwise. I’m sure Perry wanted the HC job too but it’s a state school, everybody had to interview for the position.

They should skip all of these safe hires and just have the Ferrari clan run the team.
