  1. Hmmm... I said earlier this year that I was planning on flying to Raleigh for this dual, but then realized there was little chance Vito would make the trip and decided I'd rather go another weekend. I was told that "of course Vito will be wrestling; what would make someone say he wouldn't?!"
  2. Well, the rulebook says "duals," so there is that...
  3. From a guy who didn't bother wrestling off. Leaving the easiest shot we have to qualify the weight in the hands of someone else.
  4. Why even give coaches bricks if there is no video review?
  5. Nixt may have been intentionally stopping the match, MM may actually be looking to score from the position.
  6. Looked great against Hardy and McNeil, those matches were in the middle there... but not as much of an audience. I would say he had stepped it up from the Etch loss. Then misses a weekend, and now these last two matches...
  7. That sounds correct. BTW, Askren basically said today that he would like to see the refs let MM wrestle through that position.
  8. Fernandes is generally Portuguese, but so much stuff happens with spellings before, during, after immigration that I would be willing to believe it could be Spanish.
  9. Is his son still on the Lehigh team? Grandpa Jake is the striking coach.
  10. Yeah. One team is usually winning, and the other is usually losing. Makes benches look different.
  11. Funny... Andrew Alirez thought Woods made a big improvement last year.
  12. I doubt it would ever happen, but if it is determined that Mesenbrink is repeatedly putting himself purposefully into a PD position, it is an offense that can (and should) be penalized.
  13. I saw much of the match, but watched it a 4:30 AM on Saturday. Penn State looked great. I was particularly impressed with Haines and Mesenbrink. Mesenbrink is a lot of f*n! Caliendo had his moments, but was unable to convert. I look forward to watching MM compete over the next several years in NCAA and then beyond. Gotta keep that knee healthy though! This is the type of jump I expected to see from Haines all year. He really opened it up on perhaps his toughest opponent yet. Very impressive. I'm sure Davis will improve, but I didn't see a lot from him. I don't think Ayala wrestling from one knee was as big a stall as others felt. When contact was made, he came up to both feet and handfought from there. My guess is Davis has good shots from the outside, and they gameplanned? Nagao looked good (mostly late) against an overmatched Schriever. Nagao got the turns working late and this was when he looked impressive. For the most of the match, he seemed content to ride legs and get his RT. He does this thing where he acts very frantic as if he's trying to turn his opponent, but he may have been putting on a show for the official. I also love the one armed RNC, a Nagao special! Oh, and though Bartlett looked good and seems like a nice kid, I'm not sure how much of that match was about how "Bartlett got a lot better" as opposed to "something is up with Woods." Wish I saw Kerk vs. Kueter but the match went over and I wasn't able to record. Nice job by PSU and congrats Nit fans. No big surprises for me other than some margins of victory.
  14. Casey Cunningham seems like a decent man. He was a good wrestler. I am sure he is very strong, but some are stronger. He is a very good coach. He cannot hold Terry Brands' jock as a wrestler, as far as ability and accolades.
  15. It didn't work.
  16. The ref in the Cox/Taylor matches disagrees with this statement, but only after dodging challenge bricks and chairs.
  17. Gable is on record saying he pretty much felt like he was dying during and after Tom Ryan vs. Pat Smith final. That may well age you.
  18. Also: Rowlands and Mocco wrestled 19 times over the course of their careers! Mocco won 11.
  19. Shane Sparks podcast has been enjoyable.
