  1. SDSU beat Michigan. What about caring for the sport?
  2. Roman needs as many freestyle reps as he can possibly get. He allegedly claims that he never wrestled freestyle until a few weeks ago. I also wouldn't expect to see Suriano, as coach cal put him through a tough med ball workout the other day.
  3. Maybe, but undeniable that not everyone is putting out their best lineup if they know they can win without it. This doesn't happen in BCS football. Also: Cornell, Michigan, and Arizona State are three top ten teams (or should be.) This makes it extra disturbing.
  4. Not really quickly, but has been increasingly happening over several years. Coaches are holding guys out of duals for selfish reason, which I understand to an extent as a former coach. However: for the sport to survive and thrive, a lot of these guys should make the long trip, the extra weight cut or wrestle with an ouchie or two. I would hazard a guess that many of our better publicized "ducks" are guys that would be playing in an NCAA football game on Saturday if they had the same booboo or case of sniffles. There's just no tangible incentive to do so right now. Thus we are increasingly headed to a land where duals matter less and less and all that matters is one weekend in March.
  5. I saw him throw a chair once. People who like to trash Iowa pretend that has never happened.
  6. So, lets just have a 3 day tournament and give up on the duals.
  7. I saw an old formula the other day. I'm not sure if it is still used, but it was from OH or PA, I think. I really don't remember, but it made me think. I'll look for it again.
  8. Negatives: hurts fan appeal in a major way. Maybe the only way to get guys to wrestle more would be to have number of matches be part of the seeding criteria. I know some top states have done this in high school.
  9. Would a true "alpha male" have a poll as to what he should do next? Or would he just do it?
  10. Are you including Uncle Vinny?
  11. As a D2 wrestler who wrestled against UPJ during Haselrig's era, I never heard a thing about him being the reason the rule was changed. I even had a training partner who was one of the last D2 guys to qualify. I could 100% be wrong, but I generally feel as if this claim is somewhat revisionist history.
  12. Part of the problem was that in many of those years, we didn't even bother sending a team. Askren talks about winning an age-group team trials and then USA didn't even send the team.
  13. I think 4th in Olympic Trials prior to playing in the NFL.
  14. or a true Iranian?
  15. I mean, I know... and I know Zeke. It is just funny to see "Larry."
  16. Was there a 2 kilo allowance for this?
  17. When did seedings come out?
  18. OK thanks. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Ithaca is going to get off the schnide anytime soon!
  19. Is this D1 or for any division? I say this, because some of those schools have had champs in lower divisions.
  20. Kevin Jackson. Thomas Gilman. Tervel Dlagnev. Zeke Jones. More...
  21. I would like to see the seeding formula contain some sort of incentive for "number of matches wrestled." PSU certainly has a winning formula, but it is not great for promoting the sport. Our best guys need to be out there more than 15 times a year and putting it on the line. PSU non-conference schedule is also amongst the weakest I have ever seen for a team that should have a dominant national title run. Yes, their formula is working, but does it promote the sport in the long term?
  22. Funny... I thought someone brought up international results. So four years of college undefeated?
