  1. No one wants to watch Will Lewan wrestle for an hour
  2. Fair enough, but I think the difference is double OT matches are just a portion of total OT matches, and the first SV period is pretty self-explanatory. I’m not opposed to criteria overall though. It would also shorten the length of duals and tournaments which would be a good thing IMO.
  3. I think this one did deserve its own thread, IMO. But yeah, the PSU looked human one definitely unnecessary
  4. I will also say I was impressed when Lemley beat Mitch Moore like 5 times in one match
  5. Need someone to brighten up that picture. Hard to see with the shadow
  6. You did drop him by a spot
  7. Hopefully they don’t have the same trainer there that “evaluated” Shapiro
  8. Same tweet discussed here Unfortunately, I’d guess @billyhoyle is mostly right. At minimum, this likely will not be not good for any team that doesn’t join the SEC or Big 10, although more probably will.
  9. Nolf likely wins that match anyway. But Hidlay had a takedown
  10. Should we count last night as a loss for Davis for ranking purposes?
  11. Same ref as last night.. Clear NF missed at 6:15, although in the ref’s defense they reviewed this in the booth and did not overturn…
  12. That’s one option for sure, but I think it makes it more confusing for casual fans (not that that should be a dealbreaker) I do like having the first 2 minute SV period on your feet though
  13. The obvious difference there is they’ve already gained an advantage of 59 seconds vs an advantage of only 1 second. If they’re going to award a point for a 1 second advantage, they should at least not erase the riding time that was earned in regulation
  14. That’s an oversimplification IMO, as it will also be impacted by the strategy you employ earlier in the match, and not all 2OT matches will have 0-0 first periods, so I still think it’s better than winning by 1 second of RT. I’m open to other ideas. Maybe shorten the UTB to 20 seconds so an escape is more difficult? Keep alternating sets of 2 30 second periods until 1 person actually has a higher score?
  15. Lol I am by no means a PSU fan and like I said this call was “trash,” and I usually try to defend the refs. A youth referee may get rattled by being yelled at, but D1 refs won’t. Again, I wouldn’t necessarily say that Cael is “getting” calls, it’s that other coaches may be “losing” them by acting like idiots. Although Ryan usually isn’t too bad so I don’t think that applies in this instance.
  16. I had to google what this means, but I disagree
  17. Anyone else think this needs to be changed? Winning on 1 second of riding time seems silly to me, I’d much rather see the high school version of the ultimate tiebreaker with just 1 30 second period. I’d also entertain an unlimited time on your feet or something but Michael DeAugustino, Will Lewan, and 30% of heavyweight matches would never end.
  18. I usually like Tim Johnson, but he was pretty horrible with the name pronunciations
  19. All glory to God. Hopefully he doesn’t transfer to PSU
  20. I don’t think his wrestling accomplishments have anything to do with it. Does John Smith get a lot of trash calls too? I wouldn’t say Cael being relatively quiet on the bench necessarily helps him, but I could understand if acting like an idiot like guys like Brands, Manning and Bono do might make refs NOT want to give them 50/50 calls. Can you provide some examples of other “trash” calls? A couple that come to mind for me are Hidlay/Nolf and Max Dean the year he won. But those are things you can probably count on one hand over a period of like 5 years.
  21. Thinking he has both weight cut issues and not the frame for 141 seems a bit contradictory IMO
  22. I wouldn’t say they get a lot of “trash” calls, although I’d put this one in that category. I’d agree they do seem to get a lot of calls that could go either way that end up going their way though. The interesting part to me about that is that Cael rarely even argues. Maybe some of the other coaches should take note…
  23. Especially with Angel as the assistant I thought for sure it would get overturned. He usually likes to make his presence known. At the latest (probably earlier), it’s a TD when Davis goes into the bridge. TV clock was still showing 2 seconds at that point, there’s really no argument for it not to be a TD unless the match clock was more than 2 seconds off, and even that is a weak argument.
