  1. Well the Purdue kid beat him 7-2 in the dual
  2. Would you be commenting about this bracket if it was Wilson who byed into a placement?
  3. I guess Manning’s point is that he thinks Starocci should have just been seeded last at B10’s if they knew he wasn’t going to wrestle? It’s still probably a bit of a stretch to get Wilson to an automatic qualifying spot though. If you reconstruct the bracket with everyone moving up 1 spot, he wrestles Maylor as an 11/6 matchup. If I’m reading this right, if he loses, with no Starocci he would’ve had a bye in his first consi match before wrestling the 4/5 loser, which would have been Welsh/Turley, both the guys he lost to, so he’d be back into the 9th place bracket there. If he beats Maylor he probably places top 8 in that scenario, but he did lose to Maylor in the dual. I mean I guess I wouldn’t be opposed to guys being able to not enter the conference tourney and still be entered into the at large pool (although there should be some penalty), but based on the current rules there isn’t anything wrong with what PSU did.
  4. Nick Suriano did compete at B10’s that year. Lost his first match by injury default.
  5. IIRC, he transferred mostly because PSU wanted him to get surgery and he did not. I don’t believe it was about whether or not he wrestled at NCAA’s. Based on the accounts of multiple wrestlers with firsthand knowledge of the situation, he was wrong when he said “Nick had broken his ankle and had no intention in competing in either tourney”
  6. But you were “just hoping he’d be an AA contender” this year?
  7. Lol c’mon this is downplaying him big time. His run was “unexpected” largely because he was a redshirt freshman. He was 14-3 going into Big Tens last year with only one “bad” loss, and 2 dual wins over previous AA’s. He was arguably the second biggest get of anyone in the portal (behind Mesenbrink) due to what he placed at NCAA’s and number of years of eligibility remaining. If finishes lower than 5th this year it should be considered a disappointing season.
  8. When I started this thread I was honestly thinking he hasn’t gotten a lot of press this year. He did have a win over Max Dean of course but I guess Brooks likely “beat the breaks off” him too.
  9. So did you two have a problem with the kneeling?
  10. He does talk a little bit about wrestling and family in this actually, but kinda funny that it starts with him saying “spread the word of God” so guessing they may have cut out some of his preaching
  11. Whoops, forgot about that. Well if Beard takes out Brooks in the semis, then maybe he can hope Hidlay turns into the Hidlay when he wrestles Brooks and forgets his offense.
  12. Yeah, it will probably come down to 125. IMO the most likely teams to outscore them would be Oklahoma State if Fix and Spratley win and Davis doesn’t AA, and maybe Arizona State if Parco and Figueroa win.
  13. Just tried to slow down the ending. My guess is he just said “you know he was stalling” or something, but kinda odd that it seemed to be directed towards the OSU bench
  14. Great interview here (I know a little different since it’s longer than the B10 ones which were just short post match interviews): Thanks God, but acknowledges that God doesn’t care if he wins or loses.
  15. I know most of the talk for 197 is how good Hidlay has looked and if he has a shot against Brooks. But I wouldn’t completely rule out Beard beating him especially with the former teammate factor.
  16. Here are mine: Mesenbrink/O’Toole or Carr Brooks/Beard Mesenbrink/Hamiti 2 Kerk/Bastida Crookham/Fix Crookham/Vito 3 Haines/Shapiro Gomez/Lovett 3 Brooks/Hidlay whatever number this is Beard/Hidlay Vito/Bailey
  17. The quality win criteria for seeding is based on national qualifiers right? Interesting IMO that Vito has a few wins over some bubble guys that could impact his seeding if they don’t get at larges. One being Leiphart of F&M who earned an allocation but might not qualify. Also Kade Moore and Julian Farber.
  18. You sound triggered too
  19. It does seem like Brooks has learned to be a little more subtle than he was after NCAA’s last year and in this interview he did at least acknowledge that there was a wrestling match. What did he say at the very end though? “_____ forever”?
  20. Sounds like you’re the one that’s triggered
  21. Based on the matrix maybe, but he doesn’t deserve it because he sat out the Lehigh dual, and Crookham beat the returning champ twice. But I’d be OK with Fix 1 if Vito is 4 or 5.
  22. The official wording that could be argued about whether it happened is “no wrestling occurring”
  23. Brooks after NCAA’s last year was, or are we putting that in a different category? (I would)
  24. I laughed when Ragusin asked Bormet to challenge and he pretty much said he wasn’t going to risk it when you’re getting killed
