  1. Ferrari lets him stands up then drops down and shoots him out of bounds a few times, I could see it. But I think Brooks takes him down earlier in the match
  2. No Jimmy usually pretends to be pro-Iowa but with some sort of backhanded compliment thrown in. Something like, “if Iowa State can’t beat Iowa with half their lineup suspended, should Dresser be fired?”
  3. Why not? Would think at least Angelo
  4. Also do we think there will be any Ferraris in attendance?
  5. Possibly, but if the top guy is just laying on top (such as in double boots for example) then he is preventing the bottom guy from being able to do much.
  6. Well another comment in relation to @russelscout’s post, I personally don’t think there was much issue with how stalling was called from neutral. So as long as stalling continues to get called when it happens, then hopefully we can avoid his fear of guys just stalling after getting an early takedown. To answer your question, here is an excerpt from the rulebook from the neutral stalling section: ”each wrestler shall attempt to work toward the center of the mat, and continue wrestling to attempt to score a takedown, regardless of the time or score of the match” That doesn’t mean they need to “take silly risks,” but they should be doing something. Nonetheless, it can still be exciting from neutral if the guy in the lead is mostly just playing defense if the guy in the lead is aggressively trying to score to catch up. What is NOT exciting is in top/bottom if the top guy is just laying on top of the bottom guy. For that reason I think the new rule that the top wrestler must work for near fall is the best rule change this year in terms of creating more action.
  7. Terry Brands reunion?
  8. (Please correct me if any of my math is wrong here, win totals according to wrestlestat, and interestingly it appears neither Brooks nor Starocci have wrestled a non-D1 opponent outside of Starocci's redshirt year) Brooks thus far (4+ seasons): 70 wins Starocci thus far (3+ seasons): 62 wins If they both win B10's and NCAA's, that would be 8 wins each. PSU has 12 duals remaining on their schedule. So currently they have 132 wins combined, with a maximum of 40 matches remaining (unless they lose before the semis at B10's or NCAA's). Obviously the question is do they sit out any of the duals, or lose. Which would have to happen a total of 13 out of the 40 remaining matches. Seems like they should be able to do it, but might be close depending on how they're used for the dual schedule. Really just speaks to how crazy 159-0 is (and of course neither of these 2 are undefeated). If you only count their title seasons (so not counting Brooks' wins in 2020), they will not be able to do it unless they lose before the semis at B10's or NCAA's).
  9. And again this week, but I have to assume it wasn't forgetting at this point... (at minimum he majored #24...)
  10. I was afraid this would be an issue, but in what I’ve watched so far it has not been IMO.
  11. Lol, Brooks isn’t a “bad boy,” if anything I could see a potential Brooks/Ferrari matchup billed as “Jesus vs the Devil” or something
  12. I know, but those were more reading between the lines stuff. That one was pretty direct
  13. I think it would make sense to raise techs too. Apparently Bo Bassett teched all 5 of his opponents at the Shorty Hitchcock Open in the first period, 4 of them in under 2 minutes. Obviously he’s a great wrestler, but might be time to make techs a little harder as well.
  14. And speaking of old forum posts, I think I found the winner for posts that aged poorly: https://buckeyeplanet.com/forum/threads/cael-sanderson-becomes-unexpected-head-coach-at-iowa-state.23740/ A poster named “ysubuck” on March 30, 2006 in a thread about when Cael became HC at ISU: This just doesn't make any sense to me. What makes Cael Sanderson such a hot commodity as a head coach?
  15. Anyone here read Douglas’s biography by Craig Sesker? I can’t seem to find any actual articles, but this forum post appears to copy an old article with this quote, which is even more direct: https://d1wrestling.proboards.com/thread/3844/truth-comes-out-cael-sanderson The Ohio State job had come open and we couldn't risk losing Cael,' Pollard told Sesker. ' ... Cael told me 'I'm either the head coach at Iowa State or I leave.'
  16. I mean to be fair, it’s not surprising that the PSU staff would be brought up in a thread about “who would you want to lead your program”
  17. Do we know if Spencer Lee or Spencer Lee’s mom will be there?
  18. I think you’re not quoting the most pertinent one from that article. It’s this IMO: ”I’m very appreciative of Coach Douglas’s desire to make certain that Cael remains a Cyclone.” Translation: Cael threatened to leave
  19. FWIW, the 4 point nearfall was a bigger increase compared to the old 3 point nearfall. 2 point TD to 3 point TD = 50% increase 3 points for 5 seconds to 4 points for 4 seconds = 67% increase
  20. But in all seriousness yeah this probably makes sense
  21. How does he feel about 10 point techs in freestyle? One move can get you 18 points…
  22. Apparently Tarleton State needs to raise $2 million? Hopefully Leeth took some notes on Koll’s fundraising skills…
  23. Kyle Parco
