  1. They certainly have a shot at 2nd IMO. They have 5 guys “rated” between 9-15, who could score more than projected if they AA. They also have Welsh at 25 due to limited data who’s an AA contender. They have Mendez at #4 who could win it all. They also have potential bonus scorers (Bouzakis, Mendez, Rogotzke, Feldman all have bonus wins over NQ type guys)
  2. At 133 he is 2-2 (in 2021), losing to 2 guys who did not AA. Orine lost to the guys that took 3rd, 5th and 7th last year, and he has also beaten the guy that took 7th in the past. I guess you’re really just saying they’d “give Trombley a wrestleoff if he wants one,” which sure maybe, but I highly doubt he beats Orine if so, but I also highly doubt he even attempts to wrestleoff for 133 anyway as Orine seems locked in as the guy.
  3. As the linked statement reiterates, the only “new rule” is removing the no reaction time from the rear standing position only. I think Fix was the beneficiary of that against Edmond, but that’s the only one I recall seeing so far this year. Pretty sure Bartlett’s was officially a neutral danger zone takedown. Or is that the “new rule” you’re referencing? That’s been around several years now and I think seems to be universally agreed that it was a good addition.
  4. Orine has shown to be “head and shoulders above” Trombley at 133, IMO. He’s a returning AA and Trombley has losses this year to Gable Strickland and Ethan Oakley.
  5. I thought Truax was pinned. Woods too, the ref was just out of position
  6. Trombley has pretty much zero chance of starting at 133…
  7. No, I’m sure it was more about the in-state rivalry with UNC, I’m just not sure he would be celebrating like that if he knew was just making some spot starts. I don’t have a problem with it btw, most of the team was doing them actually and fortunately I don’t believe any team points were even taken away
  8. For 2nd place, sure
  9. Well the National Coordinator of Wrestling Officials just said you’re wrong
  10. For some reason I thought Camacho had multiple bad losses but he really doesn’t. His worst loss is to Trever Anderson of UNI, who doesn’t really have any other good wins but has quite a few close losses. His other losses are to Noto, Spratley and McCrone. I’m not sure Trombley has shown to be much if any better than those guys. Sure seemed like he thought he was the starter based on the celebration he did after beating Spencer Moore though.
  11. Spratley, Nasir Bailey, Bouzakis, Sergio Lemley, Tagen Jamison, Ty Watters, Kasak, Chittum, Ryder Downey, Joey Blaze, Bennett Berge, Ryder Rogotzke, Stephen Little, Mac Stout
  12. I like how Jimmy always sneaks in his trolling in something that’s not actually what the thread is about. Lol @ the thought of Iowa winning “at least 4 matches”
  13. There are worse things they could do, but don’t people often comment that 92 kg is weak internationally even compared to 61/70/79? Seems weird to go 15 pounds from 174 to 189, but then the next 2 are only 13 and 11 lb increases. The increments should increase as you go up. And as posted above you’re basically also removing a weight where the highest # of people are (157/165)
  14. Kinda, yea. Goes along with my Bastida comment. There have been a long line of 197’s bump up to heavyweight and do just as well as they did at 285, often better.
  15. Kerk probably destroys Hutmacher. Well I’m sure he destroys Andrews too but maybe not quite as badly. Thinking back to Pitzer last year I’d say Andrews would fare better against Schultz too. But Hutmacher for Davison.
  16. Whoops, worded that paragraph badly. I’m not saying to take out heavyweight. I’m saying (which hopefully was clear in the rest of the post) that we don’t need a weight over 210 in addition to heavyweight
  17. Well, so much for Gilman “growing up” at NLWC
  18. Back in Iowa City it looks like and still training in Iowa’s room in his underwear
  19. What’s more likely, adding an 11th weight class, or the University of Texas adding wrestling?
  20. Well he is slated to wrestle Ayala, Peterson and Caleb Smith before then. If he beats them all then yes #1 seed is earned.
  21. Anyone who thinks there should be an NCAA weight over like 210 needs to watch Nash Hutmacher vs Peter Marinopoulos. Hutmacher looked like he was twice his size. And yet Marinopoulos, a backup 197 pounder, could still take him down. If you want to shift 184 & 197 up a bit fine, but the only legitimate reason to close the gap between 197 and 285 is so there’s a weight closer to 97kg for guys with freestyle aspirations. Yonger Bastida is yet another example of a 197 bumping up to heavyweight and doing better at heavyweight than they did at 197 despite giving up weight
  22. I did learn this year that his name is really Shane Nebl… (and yes I know you’re joking)
  23. Based on the data we have it’s gotta be Andrews based primarily on the win over Tabor. The guys Hutmacher has beaten (3 of which were by decision) have a combined record of 5-37… Ding 0-5 Rosenfeld 1-11 Marinopoulos 1-4 Ruhlman 3-17 Although speaking of bad records, remember when Jack Jessen (who Andrews has a win over this year) qualified for NCAA’s with a 2-10 record? isn’t he 10-9?
