    Not a dumb topic. I haven't been able to follow wrestling as closely the last few weeks and topics like this help me catch up on the H2H outcomes.

    Calling stalling on the bottom wrestler when they're losing is so dumb. Being unable to get out =/= stalling

    ouch. Getting dinged over a schedule he had no control over. But I guess it's fair that he has to go thru Davino, since he didn't wrestle Davino during the season and Blaze did.

    Big but not lean - looks like he could cut down more. Some of the current 184 crop have that solid but not ripped look - Sinclair, Ryder, Fishback, Moore. Maybe its that 184 allows for you to carry a couple extra lbs. when the lighter weights can't get away with it.

    It sucks that no matter how much credit you give Jesus when you win, He still screws you when you wrestle Penn State.

    He's within a takedown of everyone at 184. Just needs a run of good luck and lucky ref calls at NCAAs.

    Tie between Mesenbrink and Barr. BTW, shooting is stalling because it prevents your opponent from getting to their offense.

    Interesting strategy. I do the opposite - lower level for quarters and semis and nosebleeds for finals. Price delta is higher for the finals and I figure I'm only getting one match per weight.

    If that's all sessions lower level, it's actually not bad. If you go on stubhub right now, prices are higher than that for upper deck and that's without the mystery gift box. I try to justify the cost to myself by asking how much it would cost to go to the NCAA football or basketball championship game. It'd be a lot more than this and we get 3 full days of entertainment vs. a single game.

    When teams go all-in on football, it's always a bad sign for wrestling (and all other Olympic sports).

    Isn't Taylor married to Kennedy's sister? Or vice versa? There's some weird incestuous thing going there that will make it harder than normal to pull him away from OSU.

    Just to show you how subjective stalling is - I thought Merrill was the one stalling the whole match, not Elam. Subjective decisions by the ref should not be deciding matches.

    These guys should've gone in the portal as soon as Ok. St. brought in Merrill and Ryder. Both are NCAA qualifier level guys at another school.

    What you just described is classic stalling. You know it when you see it. People want to see stall calls when there's windows of no scoring or when one wrestler is fighting off attack after attack. That's not stalling and wrestlers shouldn't be forced into taking bad shots just to satisfy the ref and the crowd. Just because Mesenbrink takes 20 shots per minute doesn't mean his opponent is stalling.

    I think people have lost track of what stalling is. It's deliberately avoiding action. You know it when you see it - moving backwards and downblocking when winning with short time on the clock. Nonaction does not equal stalling. College wrestlers these days are excellent at keeping perfect positioning, particularly in the 1st period. That's not stalling. We shouldn't be using the ref to force wrestlers into taking bad shots out of fear of a stall call.

    I'm old school because I think the match should be won by wrestlers scoring points instead of being given points by the ref. Stall calls are inherently subjective and will always be called inconsistently, even by the best-intentioned ref. We need fewer stall calls, not more.

    Lucas Byrd's old enough to be a player-coach. Kinda like Paul Neuman in Slapshot.

    Sounds like an awfully harsh outcome for a transgression that's likely negligible dollar amounts in the grand scheme of Illinois' athletic budget. But the fact he's been out for so long without a peep from the school has me concerned you're right.
