This is the right answer. I don't know any wrestlers that want their season to cut across 2 academic semesters of school. Moving to spring-only also moves NCAAs away from basketball championships, which takes eyeballs away from wrestling. Really a no-brainer.
Pro tip for the rookies - don't buy round 5 tix ahead of time. You can get deals from people who are either: (i) sick of wrestling after 2 days of non-stop matches; or (ii) hungover on Sat. and not interested in medal matches.
Even if you don't get a deal, buy a nosebleed ticket just to get in and sneak down to the lower bowl - there'll be plenty of open seats.
1. Quarterfinals - last round where guys who may not have expected to get this far just let it fly. Best upsets of the tourney.
2. Blood round - no explanation necessary.
Guys really seem to clam up in the semis and finals. The stakes are high, but the wrestling tends to be conservative and boring.
Lots of guys mentioned above did eventually win a title. I feel the worst for Plecher. He waited his turn in the OSU room behind some studs just to get screwed his senior yr.
