In the context of wrestling (i.e. the subject of this message board) less than 1% of all programs across D1-D3 are revenue positive. So I'd say schools don't need top athletes. In fact, they'd be better off financially without any wrestling program at all.

For the sake of the college wrestlers, it should be a one-semester sport with a shorter season. Start in January and have conference & NCAAs in April. Wrestlers would get to enjoy the holidays and wrestling gets out of the way of football season, bowl games, March Madness, and done before wrestlers have to study for finals.

I read elsewhere that the wrestling program has limited ability to get guys into grad school at Stanford. So the grad. transfers may not have a choice. Younger guys are a headscratcher - giving up a degree that will benefit you for a 30-40 year professional career for a quick five-figure cash infusion does not demonstrate good long-term planning.

Dogbone is right. Ticket prices will drop but you run the risk of missing out on all lower bowl tickets if you wait too long. So if you are OK with upper deck, wait until the last minute. If you want lower bowl, you should probably buy now. A couple other things to note: (i) it will be cheaper to buy from scalpers outside the stadium vs. buying from stubhub, but you'll have to negotiate on price and also run a small risk of getting scammed; and (ii) you'll get the best deals for the Sat. morning session if you wait until right before; lots of people plan to go but end up too hungover or burned out on watching wrestling. In fact, that's a good day to buy nosebleed tix and just move down to any lower bowl seats that are open. There's usually a bunch.
