  1. Probably because people will believe that, and parents will expect their kids to at least get a decent fraction of that.
  2. We could get to see Kasak vs Facudno and Barr vs Cochran at the black knight this weekend. kasak and Beau hit last year there as well as evans and Kasak I believe. TB and MM also wrestled there so that could be a defacto wrestle off.
  3. They actually wrestled the same bracket, Vince forfeited to Jaydon in the semis and went on to take third.
  4. In that case Mendez had a better 2023 season than Alirez had 2022 so dating back to the last two season which are the only ones you could cite given Mendez only has two he should be 1.
  5. I think a situation worth monitoring is going to be how he manages his weight. He wrestled 132 and 138 his senior year but he then went to folk nationals in April and wrestled 152 so I assume his cut is pretty nuts.
  6. I do believe there are matches on fight pass now. They don't seem to get into business with anything thats not going to see immediate returns for them. If wrestling can get even as mainstream as BJJ I think they may show more interest, but BJJ has Joe rogan talking about it all the time which helps immensely.
  7. they were being critical of "his guy"!
  8. Beard I believe well at least in the dual.
  9. I know hes battled with injuries since his junior year of HS so hope hes healthy.
  10. While I love the chart and info when you boil it down to NCAA's if you swap Mendez and Alirez you have 4 of the top 6 wrestlers are from the same field. Bonus has never been factored into rankings and while I agree strength of schedule is a good metric I am not a fan of dinging someone because he could not wrestle x guy especially when he went undefeated and won NCAA's which is a culmination of the entire country. I think if you had each guys resume without accounting for both wrestling at NCAA's Mendez could come out on top based off of those metrics.
  11. I think it boils down to Jesse was 29-2 against the field that Alirez went 27-0 against. I would rank Jesse 1 personally and I think he wins it all this year but when you take into account Alirez being 1-0 against Bartlett and not having the cole matthews loss I see how they got there.
  12. I would definitely favor Okie state on the potential upset side. Tagen just looked awesome against a guy Block probably should have lost to so I'll use the transitive property to remove that match. I think Hughes if he manages the cut can beat Drake, Drake seems like a tweener between 125 and 133 and Hughes is massive. I dont give Young or Travis a shot at least for the time being Young has looked good but parco has looked great. I'd say the next likeliest upset for me may be surber over Buch? Both guys have looked great in a small sample.
  13. Marcus Blaze tech pinned his way through the findlay open (almost entirely a d2 and d3 event). The reason I made this thread is because 1,2,3 at 133 were high schoolers the weight had the 3,5 ranked guys for d1 and the 1 guy for d3 returning national finalist. The runner up Ryan Kennedy and the third place guy Jace Morgan both took 7th at the grappler fall classic about a month ago which is a very tough high school tournament but probably not a top 5 one. Grey Burnett also majored 2x division 2 AA Shane corrigan in the finals, Burnett took 7th at 120 at super 32. This is a long winded way of saying it seems like even the less credentialed high school kids could go out and compete with the best at least at the d2 level which is why I think we are seeing true freshman have such success early on. Tyler dekrakker also won the millersville open over max leete in the finals Jaydin o Farrill of Mccort took 2nd (I don't think he makes the Mccort lineup this year)
  14. Barraclough is proving to be the AA threat we all thought he would be if he could find himself in the lineup. At a weight where it feels like MM and everyone else I was thinking that Barraclough may present him the most issues. He is very good on the mat, is pretty good at slowing matches down and was in the room with him for a year.
  15. Renteria could AA this year he was undefeated last year (small sample) but he did beat Richie figs in Febuary which I think is notable because we all know what Richie did in March. That said spratley has had two nail biters which is more on brand for what he did last year than what I had hoped for this year.
  16. The match being competitive is probably the biggest cause for concern to me. First match of the year at a new weight so can't take a ton away from it but between this and his US open showing I wonder if he's not going to be as prolific at 133 as he was 125.
  17. SVN looked incredible, Henson is the only guy that I think may be able to handle his pressure this year. Feldman is not in that top 3 convo unless he makes jumps during the season like last year Parker is going to have to wrestle Carter from space more to have a shot Jore Volk looked damn good I don't think Jesse loses to BB ever again Two horse race at 174 but I think that was already assumed Kasak looked good not sure I think hes a title threat yet
  18. they put far too many matches on this card for it to start at 7:00. Not to sound like an old man but I don't really want to be up until 11:00 watching.
  19. the oldest video in the archives is the program from 2012 that I could find. They have a 2014 film about that 2014 world team but no Cejudo.
  20. I would guess he starts at 157 but probably goes up to 165. The consensus seems to be he will have to work to make 70kg again next year. His strength is definitely a huge asset for him so Id like to see him grow to 165 rather than come up from 157 to 74kg.
  21. WWE requires a push from the company to become relevant for the most part if hes just mowing through people in mma people are going to watch. If its to cheer him on or watch him lose. People want the heel to lose in the WWE but there isn't a real shot they will get hurt or knocked unconscious at least intentionally, there is that element in MMA. Ultimately if he is good at MMA it's going to be hard for him to not turn heads.
  22. He's 24 he could wrestle through 2028 cement his legacy make a good amount of money and then transition to MMA at 28 as a 2x Olympic champ which would immediately make him one of the most marketable guys out there.
  23. Any word on paniro or Yonger being back for Iowa?
  24. Pretty sure people debunked both davis vs nagao and facundo kasak as not happening. However I have no idea had someone aside from minnow reported I would not question it but he's a moron so I have doubts. I don't know why Nagao would be wrestling off if he is med shirting. He also reported that Facundo beat Kasak 8-3 which seems like a crazy margin to me, but he could have gotten a big move.
  25. I'm sure it certainly did not hurt his decision-making process. As much as I am not a PSU fan and want a bit more parody in the sport at the college level, going there was almost certainly the best thing for his international aspirations. I did think training with Mendez every day would be invaluable but perhaps he views him as more of a competitor for 2028.
