Oregon State was the other team. Also, that was an individual tournament, not duals.
-
The Holzhouser Building, of course! Basically a shoebox large enough for a mat and about 1,000 fans, and not much else...the NC State/Virginia Tech and NC State/Missouri duals there were absolutely INSANE!
-
Alex Dieringer got a #1 seed as an At-Large once...
-
Slipped my mind, but not having a fifth-place match where they earned four automatics really hurts the conference. That's something that really needs to be looked at during the offseason, and it's something that other conferences that don't place their whole field (most notably the conferences with "Big" in their name) have figured out.
-
ACC is almost always the most chalky conference…just look at how few of their guys are in the police blotter…
-
I know the answer to the first question...Arizona State with 7 in 1988 is the lowest since they started having qualifiers. Not sure about top four.
-
DeAugustino actually did.

Max Dean's last regular season match - surprising
SetonHallPirate replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
In football and basketball, this sort of thing happens all the time. For a wrestling example, occasionally Penn State (and possibly Iowa) does wrestle guarantee duals (ie. Penn State pays Clarion more than Clarion could hope to make in Tippin Gym, called a guarantee). (I know in the past Penn State has given Lock Haven a guarantee dual, not sure if that's the case with Clarion, or if Clarion is hosting next year) -
True, but the EIWA still got the Ivy’s bids.
-
2021 is a bad year to use…that was the year they were forced to use historical data due to the truncated season.
-
He'll be fine...has the winning percentage and will have the coaches' ranking (unless the 14 coaches that rank 149 have sudden amnesia about who he is, minimum for both of those is 8 matches).
-
I never have...and jumping into the minds of 140 (counting all of them once for each weight they have) college coaches is not something I intend to do...
-
I was only shocked because I was hoping he'd end up with the (then-open) Fresno State job instead after he got kneecapped by the Grand Canyon administration...of course, Cal Poly worked out far better for him than Fresno State would have (in likely being kneecapped again by admin there).

Cal State Bakersfield's wrestling program
SetonHallPirate replied to NearFall's topic in College Wrestling
Classic case of great minds thinking alike. It isn't that long ago (2016) that CSU Bakersfield won the Pac-12 regular season title. -
Cal State Bakersfield's wrestling program
SetonHallPirate replied to NearFall's topic in College Wrestling
I'm not generally in favor of wrestling posters being dropped but in the case of NearFall I think it needs to be considered. -

Jaron Smith actually wrestled in that Michigan State dual...at 184 pounds!

There's also far more wrestlers at the middleweights (generally specifically in the 141-157 range) than on the ends...for example, the number of Division I wrestlers who have wrestled at least one match against other Division I competition at each weight up to this point in the 2022-23 season... 125: 223 133: 267 141: 300 149: 331 157: 338 165: 299 174: 280 184: 262 197: 234 285: 227

What happened to the University of Wyoming?
SetonHallPirate replied to Ivan Stankowski's topic in College Wrestling
I always wonder if somebody who uses the portal that heavily is trying to mask deeper issues within the program (inability to recruit, retain, or develop). -

Brick to Head...MSU loses team point and Dual 16-15
SetonHallPirate replied to feet2back's topic in College Wrestling
Looks like it was for a late brick. If it was for the brick being thrown at the official Roger Chandler would’ve been watching the rest of the dual on his phone from the parking lot. -
D-1 Week in Preview, January 16-22
SetonHallPirate replied to SetonHallPirate's topic in College Wrestling
NC State/Virginia Tech is being aired live on the ACC Network. -
