with the Pac 12 (basically) going away....
SetonHallPirate replied to Bardamu911's topic in College Wrestling
Stanford is joining the ACC. -
And added men's soccer and golf, citing "alignment with their conference rivals". Then, to make sure they completely couldn't add wrestling later (presumably), added men's swimming and diving, a sport that they can likely never be competitive in, on his way out.

Hey...that Boise State baseball team lasted a grand total of 14 games (not seasons) before being cut themselves! As far as Alberts, he cut UNO the night they won the Division II national championship (not an exaggeration).
-
You used to actually lose all of your team points. That was changed in the 2011 offseason after LeBlanc had all of his team points deleted for missing weight on Day 3.
-
Didn’t Kenny Jordan miss weight on Day 2 his last year at Nebraska?
-
Could be worse…Lindenwood announced they had a “special announcement”…last time I heard that was May 1, 2011.
-
Ken Chertow was the first head coach Queens hired when they started the program. Let's just say he left about a month into his first season under mysterious circumstances.
-
No, there aren't. Just no.
-
Really man? Even the Yankees need the smaller-market programs to play. Plus, that's 30 wrestlers every recruiting cycle that are now unlikely to ever become future coaches, officials, etc.
-
Definitely not.
-
Here's an e-mail exchange I had with the Athletic Director about the time the previous coach, Rob Tate, stepped down. Pretty sure at that point that they had no intention of ever looking at filling the position.

Who will be the At-large Selections
SetonHallPirate replied to killdozer's topic in College Wrestling
My understanding was that having wrestlers being required to wrestle two matches to their natural conclusion didn't make it through Competitive Safeguards. That being said, what would stop an injured wrestler from simply falling backwards at the start of the match and letting the opponent pin him twice? -
PAC 12 incompetence is on full display at Oregon State today
SetonHallPirate replied to Thumper's topic in College Wrestling
At least the PAC-12 put the true second matches on Track this year…usually finding out the results of those matches were like waiting for the Western Union Telegram to show up at your door during World War II (or so the moderator of this board tells me). -
Police Blotter: Conference Championships Edition
SetonHallPirate posted a topic in College Wrestling
A working document that will be filled up over the weekend, of course. https://wrestlingbypirate.wordpress.com/2024/03/08/police-blotter-conference-championships-edition/ -
Gotcha...that makes sense. Didn't think of that.
-
I'm assuming you're referring to after shrinkage...because a 32-foot diameter mat with a five-foot protection area would be a 42x42 mat before shrinkage.
-
If we had a standard mat size, it would likely be the 32-foot diameter (42x42 mat) used at Nationals and most big tournaments. I've actually wondered, out loud (on the former BirdApp) whether it might be a good idea to go down to a 28-foot diameter, but a minimum seven-foot protection area, in the next rules cycle (although this would have to probably be phased in over several years).

Give me a little bit, and I'll have the breakdown at http://wrestlingbypirate.wordpress.com

The first point may be the biggest news of the bunch! I wish I knew. Would make my life much easier.
-
I’ve never done that. Red Blades has a better explanation of what I’ve done, although I’m not sure how quickly I’ll get things done today, as life gets in the way.
-
No, no, no, and no. Theoretically Morgan State is, but they don't have a conference. They are eligible for at-large bids, but won't get any. The rest are still in their transition period. Bellarmine clears it this year, and will be eligible for SoCon's in 2024-25. Queens will be eligible in 2026-27.

Along with a presumptive POSITIVE flu diagnosis...he sounds awful in that interview. Hope Brian, along with the rest of the team, feels better soon.

Marcus Coleman. Kevin Dresser would’ve been extremely interested to know that he had a former national champion for Oklahoma State on his roster, while he was also simultaneously the head coach at North Carolina!

Update: The Last Chance Open at Iowa State has been scrubbed.
