It seems like they are losing steam on getting it to be a school sponsored program. What most people don't know is the University of Texas had wrestling. It was a long time ago. They even beat Oklahoma A&M in a dual! I think they beat the Okie Aggies twice! Another bit of "Useless trivia for $500" is that Arkansas State also had a wrestling program back in 1949-1953. Coach departed for a job in his home state. The open position was Head Wrestling Coach at Iowa State University. The coach was, Harold Nichols. I won't say that is the rest of the story, but there you go.

That was the Okie way! That is why Kurdelmeier got out the monster mat. I do think that FILA changed the rules to hinder the American style. There are countless stories of fraud and corruption at the international tournaments. Before the internet, they weren't even very shy about it either.

Those are some great problems to have.

My cousin owns a great bbq joint down the street from the UALR campus and was willing to give JW a Free bbq pork samich every month! I still can't believe he left Okie State Lite to go to Iowa...SIGH

That is great! Unfortunately, that thought process has trickled down to younger kids as well.

Have Dake and Burroughs even expressed an interest in coaching at the college level? If they don't become the next gamechanger level coach, there will be a lot of disappointed posters.

Like it was mentioned earlier, these small schools are enrollment driven. They are usually private schools that cost anywhere from $40K-$75K a year. So they get a girl with a 3.75 GPA and they offer her a $20K academic scholarship. They get one coach for both programs, and MAYBE pay the head coach $50K. Usually there is an assistant coach and possibly a GA. It is a rough go for sure.

I would have to disagree. There just are not enough girls who want to wrestle in college to support the number of programs.

The market is now flooded. There are too many women's programs and a lot of them can't fill the roster.
