  1. I would’ve liked to see a replay but I thought that looked like 4 for Nashon?
  2. I think this is accurate but begs the question… If Brooks was coached to simulate Taylor’s opponent to help Taylor prepare, are the coaches still doing that with teammates facing each other? Are the NLWC coaches teaching Brooks how to defend against Taylor’s strengths and looking for weaknesses in Taylor’s game (if there are any lol) and trying to teach Brooks how to exploit that? If so, it would seem like a conflict of interests. If not, it’s a disservice to Brooks (and vice versa for Taylor).
  3. I have a bronze card… what’s the relevance to OTT tickets?
  4. Bummer. Guess I just over paid. Oh well, at least I guaranteed I have decent seats
  5. That’s what I am wondering. I bought two lower bowl tickets right at noon so I can be sure I have them, but I wanted more than 2. Now it’s showing there’s nothing left lower bowl but I have to assume there’s some reserved for the regular sale, right? Will they be cheaper then?
  6. It’s the Flo business model… try to squash all the competition, so people have to subscribe.
  7. Good for him. I always enjoyed watching him wrestle. I think it’s definitely the right move for him. I would imagine he’s going to be the top guy for Mexico, so he needs to focus on qualifying the weight and he can be an Olympian! He doesn’t need the grind that the NCAA season at this point
  8. If metcalf goes to Iowa, does he bring Chittum with him?
  9. I don’t think CP even believes it. He’s obviously trying to do his job to get views. Stuff like this stirs up chatter. Just think of how much discussion we have off of Cinnabons ridiculous claims (that he also doesn’t believe). In Pyles defense, he did say it depends on if you define GOAT by best at their peak. If you do (which most don’t), then it’s so subjective, Gable would have a case. Like others have said though, recency bias plays a big role in that subjective discussion.
  10. I agree that Olympic weights are generally tougher, but I’m not sure if it’s right to factor that in for an all time discussion. It’s only the last several years that were limited to 6 Olympic weights. When smith competed there were 10 weights every year so are we considering those weights weaker? Not to mention the Soviet Union had one rep.
  11. Yeah I meant if they win golds in 2024. DT and Steveson would have two Olympic golds and although Steveson wouldn’t have as many overall medals, he could be considered for level of dominance and potential undefeated run. Dake would be in the conversation too despite one of his Olympic medals being bronze because he could have 5 world championships too.
  12. Dylan Palacio wins both categories
  13. Right now it has to be Smith, JB, Big Bruce, and Snyder. Olympics are the pinnacle of the sport and I think they should count higher than a world medal, but not so much that they are trumping all the other medals won by these guys. Taylor, Dake, and Steveson could be in the conversation if they win Olympic golds.
  14. Kish is pretty darn good hire! Honestly a lot better than I thought they would get. He’s been quietly building a great program at NDSU and you could see their improvement. I’m interested to see if he can turn their program around. I did think their last two hire were great too though so who knows lol.
  15. Have you ever watched a Suriano folkstyle match? There’s only so much the rules can do… some wrestlers just have that style of trying to shut things down and are very good at it. Marsteller/Ringer is another example, but literally every other finals match was tons of action and lots of scoring. You can’t cherry pick an outlier to prove a point
  16. I agree in most instances there’s a huge difference in NCAA tournament and US open (which is why we see much more MFF at the open). But in Lee’s specific case there’s really no difference. Iowa had approximately 0% chance of winning the tournament at that point. Lee missed his goal of 4x champ and the difference between 3rd and 6th meant nothing to him. And his next goal was to make the world team and he needed to recover and not risk further injury when the Open was coming up that soon. In his situation, I can’t understand why it’s so unforgivable to MFF. Also, the fact that he MFF in the championship bracket at the Open proves that he is truly injured. No way he does that if he isn’t hurt severely
  17. I agree. Wrestling the consis at NCAAs wouldn’t have gotten Lee into WTT/Final X either (in fact it would greatly decrease his chances), and it wouldn’t have gotten him another chance at his goal of 4 NCAA titles. So what would be the point, and why all the criticism??
  18. If he was able to finish the match against Ringer, how was he not able to wrestle back the next day? He’s clearly hurt (Like Lee and many others) but was clearly able to wrestle when he really wanted to. Exact same situation as Spencer. I’m not denying he was injured and I don’t blame him for MFF out, but it’s crazy that he gets a free pass and Lee gets crucified.
  19. I like the idea… NLWC wouldn’t like the salary cap idea though ;-)
  20. No I’m saying if it’s folk style, it’s tied and you take him down with a minute left all we get to see is a ride out. In freestyle, you can’t shut down at all because you aren’t just riding out or even just defending a takedown… you can’t even step out of bounds!
  21. It’s pretty simple… freestyle is more action packed and more exciting to watch. Just look at the matches as whole. How many come from behind wins were there?! You can’t just sit in a lead or ride a guy out in freestyle. This is also one of the underrated benefits of the step out… it’s hard to take someone down but now there’s another way score so it creates more action. Folk style has more of a traditional following and as others have mentioned the team following in the NCAA is the big thing. Which is another reason to put more emphasis on duals. So while folk style is still clearly more popular, it’s definitely not more exciting to watch right now. It could be though. It wasn’t that long ago that freestyle wrestling was relatively boring to watch too.
  22. It can be (and is) both physical and mental. They go together and it’s pretty much a chicken/egg argument on what comes first, but most coaches will agree that the mental aspect is more important for peaking for the postseason. That doesn’t mean they ignore the physical side of things though. I guarantee you that everyone including Iowa is tapering their physical training before NCAAs.
  23. No and Brands isn’t either
  24. Seems like you are taking everything out of context. He basically says that peaking, overtraining, and burnout are mostly mental. Which is true. It’s pretty evident that Cael is getting his guys to peak at the right time with more mental training than physical training.
  25. I know this is totally trolling but I’ll bite. No way he would have done better at Penn State. At Lock Haven he got a ton of attention and mentorship from the coaching staff. Not that Penn State would’ve ignored him, but he would not be one of the guys that is their main focus. I think going to another big university would have had similar results as OSU
