Remember when you could watch PA States for free?
Eagle26 replied to Threadkilla's topic in High School Wrestling
Yeah I was trying to be smart… point is that cable is not free. If they were on Fox, NBC, or some other other-the-air network, then they would be free. PCN was never free (not sure about NPR). You either had to pay for cable or now pay for flo. More and more people are ditching cable subscriptions, so a lot of people would be left out from watching it either way. -

When was that? I don’t ever remember them being on an over-the-air network? -
Seems like it’s pretty easy to see what went on… Carter wanted to wrestle and thought he could, Cael thought it was best for him to rest so he did, Carter was upset about the decision and sent a tweet at midnight (probably after a few beverages) that made it seem like he was done. I’m sure he’s going to wrestle at NCAAs and I’m guessing he’s going to win it too. If he’s healthy enough that he truly thought he could wrestle now, he’s going to be healthy enough to win Nationals in two weeks. He will thank Cael later.

You don’t need the parentheses… in PA it is States!
-
I agree that he probably won’t win it all, but it is definitely in the realm of possibility. 125 is so wide open that anything is possible, so right now I feel like 149 is their only weight that seems virtually impossible (but you never know). Now of course the chances all that going right for them is extremely slim.

The official beginning of the death of the NCAA has begun
Eagle26 replied to bnwtwg's topic in College Wrestling
You are probably right and it seems everything always goes the route of “the rich get richer”. But I will add that many of the small programs are already doing a lot of their own fundraising. Potentially, the school could continue to help fund as well because it is still a draw to their school. RTCs could work together like Penn and Drexel at PRTC. It would be cool to see local tech schools and things like that work together with universities and it may help the smaller schools get more athletes -
That would be extremely impressive, but I honestly wouldn’t be shocked at 7. I do think 8 or more certainly qualify as shocking. Unless by wrestlers on the mend he means Shane Van Ness is ready to go… then they would even have a chance at all 10! (I know, not gonna happen but still crazy to think about)

Maybe if this comes to fruition, USA wrestling should step in and sponsor some RTC team duals and a championship tournament? As others have pointed out, there as so many good post high school options for your career path, why should someone who wants to continue their athletic career be forced to go to a traditional “4 year” college? College teams are already working closely with RTCs. Why not have them work together and a kid could be enrolled or not enrolled in the college for their team competitions? -
Honestly, I think you nailed it with your OP. I was trying to add something a little different and I must admit I was having a hard time deciding where Iowa would pick up another win (I do think they take one between 141-157), so I was trying to give myself some wiggle room [emoji23] But here goes… 125 - Dec Iowa 0-3 133 - Dec PSU 3-3 141 - Dec Iowa (this time…Beau wins at least one at B1G or NCAA) 3-6 149 - Dec PSU 6-6 157 - Dec PSU 9-6 165 - Dec PSU 12-6 174 - MD PSU 16-6 184 - MD PSU 20-6 197 - TF PSU 25-6 285 - Fall PSU 31-6 Not sure where I got 33-6 in my first prediction lol, but I’ll with 31-6 as my final
-
That’s fair… I admit I haven’t seen too many of his matches and was just going by the eye test. He may have improved more than it appears. Either way, I still think it’s fair to call this one a toss up. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Woods wins this one in Carver, but I would be shocked if Woods beats Beau 3 times in row this year.
-
Idk… Woods was definitely the better wrestler last year, but to me it hasn’t looked like he improved much. Bartlett on the other hand looks a lot tougher this year. We can’t put too much stock into last year. I’m not a PSU fan, but I have to admit they have a pretty good track record at having their guys ready in March. Even if Beau loses this one, my money would be on him at NCAAs.
-
I would say Iowa is only a slight favorite at one weight - 125 One true toss-up at 141 PSU slight favorites at 149 and 157 PSU moderate favorites at 133 and 165 PSU heavy favorites 174-285 So it really wouldn’t be that crazy for us to see Iowa get blanked, but I do think they will win 125 and find a way to win one between 141-157. So I’ll say 33-6 PSU

AJ Schopp would be another guess. I think I remember both those guys losing early and coming back for third. Not sure if either had a pigtail match.

Dustin Manotti?

Uetake definitely has an argument over Cael. Dake not so much.

You kind of answered your own question. Baumgartner and Flynn were the reason for their success. After they left, Edinboro got a dose of reality. The reality is that they’re a small state school with bad winters and not a lot to offer a blue chip recruit. With the emergence of Penn State, a lot of top PA talent is going there, plus the “shrinking” of our country (due to ease of travel and long distance communication) makes it easier for recruits to go anywhere in the country. Sadly, it makes it hard for all these small PA schools to be successful. With good coaching, one or two of these programs should be able to do pretty well (like and Edinboro did and Lock Haven seems to be doing ok now), but I doubt we will ever see the days again when Lock Haven, Bloomsburg, Clarion, etc. all have great teams.

Is Truax the weak link in the Penn State lineup?
Eagle26 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Come on now… Jimmy can be a bit annoying but that’s a little harsh! Now those creeps from the other thread though… you wouldn’t hear any arguments from me if someone decided to take them to the train station! -
Creeps in the wrestling community - What can we do about it?
Eagle26 replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
Absolutely disgusting and crazy that someone makes an account just to come on here and defend this! But on to the “what can we do about it” part… As others have mentioned, the singlet needs to go. We have given the option of fight shorts and compression shirt a long time ago. Problem is coaches cater to the elite. The serious wrestlers don’t care and take pride in the tradition of the sport so they all prefer singlets. Unfortunately that’s what the coaches order the team then. You say it doesn’t make a difference, but it is a fact that some kids don’t come out for the sport because they think they have to wear a singlet. If coaches cared more about the growing the sport as a whole rather than catering to the elite, the change would’ve happened a long time ago. Sadly, now we have another reason to move on from the singlet. I hope this is enough to get it to be a mandatory change across the board. -
Iowa should STILL welcome the Ferraris
Eagle26 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Of course no one knows for sure and it requires faith to believe what the Bible says. Just like it requires a lot faith to believe that all the complexity of life on earth just happened by random chance. No one really knows and the origins of life and religions views will be debated as long as there is life on earth. But none of that is really relevant to this conversation. The main point that is relevant is that, if you believe the Bible (which Brooks clearly does), then what he said is a manifestation of his religious beliefs. He just didn’t really say it in the best way (he’s in his early twenties after all). People who want to condemn Brooks for his faith are being religiously intolerant, which is a bit ironic actually. -

Jesus himself said that he is the only way to get to heaven. So as @Hammerlock3 said, a Christian can’t really acknowledge the legitimacy of other religions. I don’t think that makes Christians bad people, just strong in their faith. Now, I don’t think what Brooks said was a good idea and what he said it isn’t going to inspire Muslims to convert to Christianity (probably the opposite). Just wanted to clarify why Brooks said it. -
I don’t think the head ref could see it from his angle, but if you look at 9:16, the ref on the side had a perfect view and doesn’t do a thing. That’s a situation where he needs to step in and make sure the right guy is penalized
