    Like the Heisman, the Hodge is a season-season award given to the wrestler who gets the most amount of first-place votes from the Hodge Trophy Voting Committee and Fan Vote based on these criteria: record, dominance/bonus-point percentage, quality of competition and sportsmanship. The above is from the WIN voting site. NO mention of past accomplishments. Felt like that was a factor in the past. Regarding sportsmanship, do we have any data points to judge from?

    Thanks Gimp. I’m watching the ESPN video. I can’t see angle on butt but see your note here. Now I will get on my soapbox. I disagree on the no TD call. If that is not considered a TD it needs to be. We need to reward the aggression. And the simple optics of who is in each position … with green covering and in control of legs and red hips … with red sitting on butt … screams TD.

    It did eliminate the head up requirement I believe. Read up on it. Gimp - need both butt cheeks down in this position? Ok, will need to go back and check. Many other TDs don’t need both butt cheeks down.

    I hate it because PSU is too good already. I freaking love it since we can see Ono more and having him in the college sport is going to be a blast. Love it to see how he adjusts to the funk roll etc. defense that doesn’t fly with freestyle. Just another great set of story lines … but damn …. Anyone but Penn State. Bet he is getting some big $$$$. It’s going to be a very cool experience for him. Excited for him.

    Right. Folks need to knock it off with the Shapiro is accusing a certain wrestler schtick. That said, use of PEDs should be discussed and rooted out.

    @vsnej - we think alike. @ugarles - I hear you on the wrap around screen with mat info around second deck. Layout sucked. Hard to read. So spread out and much blocked. KC had a much better one.

    Can someone connect the dots for me with what Shapiro said? What did he say that suggested ANY particular wrestler? He was talking about ideas moving up to 165 but can make 149. Then some guys may or may not be taking steroids - wink wink. Where is is accusing any particular wrestler? Please - need help here. Some are saying he is talking about Kasak - pls be clear on what he said that would suggest that.

    Enjoyed Philly. Good place for NCAAs. Not as awesome as KC but very good. Easy in an out on the Septa line. Downtown - lots of life and food / drink options. But do need to get away from Arena to find stuff. And the smell of Pot was pretty much everywhere. That said —- place is good for big upsets putting chinks in the armor of legends. Bubba / Taylor … now Wyatt / Gable. Had a great time. Thanks Philly!!

    I get it, my love of Gable dropped. But I don’t dislike him and don’t root against him. Fairly irrational to hate a guy for taking some risks and trying to succeed as they define it.

    Human psychology is at play in the Hodge, big time. #1 Wyatt’s mega explosion at NCAAs will have a lasting mental effect. #2 I imagine there is some Penn State fatigue. #3 I think most, when think hard about it, think that 5 titles is bull poop. Any of the priors with 4 would be heavy favorites to get 5. Not a big deal. I think these heavily lean Wyatt.

    Maybe because he is a Penn State guy and people are tired of their dominance. I’d like to see him come back. I think we need him on the world stage.

    Eh, security was not an issue … yes took a bit longer to get in but glad they are being careful. For me, not worth a moment of complaining. Yes, some overlap. But not a big deal for me. Small price to pay to have POTUS attend the championships. A pretty damn big deal for ‘our’ sport. Great recognition. High honor. Note, I’m referring to the role of POTUS. Not the actual person in the role now.

    The villain? Where you seeing that? Some wackjobs on this board? Come on. Get your head out of your forum posting ass. People love the underdog. And Wyatt hype has been built up. Was fun and exciting to see the underdog beat the champ. No hate on Gable. I get some may not be big fans of Gable. I’m not one. But villain? That’s ridiculous.

    Reaction time? I don’t think so. It settled in for a bit. There was a pause before the TD was given. Anyone have another reason? Really feeling this was a crap call reversal. Is ref association required to explain?

    Loved when Vito told Crookham to get the F to center mat and wrestle. So many just backed to edge and stayed there I was expecting the offensive opponent to just go back to center and point to mat in front of them. Make opponent get there and highlight to ref the stalling that was occurring by the other guy backing up. Showy? Yes. But it is a great way to tell the ref to wake up and call the stalling.

    Can someone please explain how the Henson TD was overturned? In front, had both legs, opponent on butt, Henson head down between opponents legs. What was precisely different from the rule they put in after Jordan Oliver match?

    I don’t know that I see any casualty linking the 3 pt to fewer TD attempts. Can someone explain the rationale? I do agree that a 3 or 2 pt margin does promote stalling at end. Which is pissing me off.
