https://blueprint2024.com/polling/post-mortem-2-nov/ In the final days of the 2024 presidential election, one in four swing voters were still making up their minds. When they finally chose, they broke decisively for Donald Trump—delivering a deeply sobering message about Democratic Party misalignment on the high-salience issues of immigration and the economy and laying bare a Democratic brand problem. These voters absorbed right-wing attacks against the Democratic Party and delivered a verdict driven by kitchen-table economics and immigration concerns while rejecting what they perceived as Democratic cultural priorities. As our research has shown, these decisive swing voters ranked the Democratic Party’s perceived focus on cultural issues over middle-class concerns as their top criticism (+28)—even above inflation (+24) and immigration (+23). Vice President Harris couldn’t escape what voters think the Democratic Party represents—believing that the party holds extreme positions on the broad swath of issues and would enforce them through policy. Over 80% of these decisive swing voters believed Harris held positions she did not campaign on in 2024, including supporting taxpayer funding for transgender surgeries for undocumented immigrants (83%), mandatory electric vehicles by 2035 (82%), decriminalizing border crossings (77%), and defunding the police (72%). Perhaps most painfully, only 22% of swing voters who chose Trump believed Harris prioritizes “Americans like me” versus party activists—a stark contrast with the 80% who said Trump prioritizes “Americans like me” over party activists. Furthermore, 75% of swing voters who broke for Trump say it is either “extremely accurate” or “very accurate” that Democrats are “too focused on fighting Trump rather than bringing the country together.” Despite Harris’s disciplined campaign messaging and positioning in speeches and paid advertising, Republicans created and exploited disconnects between Harris’s stated views and the preferences of the electorate, building narratives around her that resonated organically with swing voters. The decision points of these voters—who remained open to persuasion until the very end—reveal not just a rejection of Harris but what they believed the Democratic Party stands for. Pretty interesting. I heard about this yesterday. For swing voters, the trans issue was a big reason they went for Trump. mspart

One would think, but that has proven not to be true in many cases. mspart

Kolat definitely. Dake multiple WC, yes him too. Terry? Spencer? I think too soon for him to be on the list. Terry didn't make the olympic team in 1996 in spectacular manner. He did make it in 2000, but had not done much wrestling since 1996. He did make the 1999 WT ( I was at the WTTs that year in Seattle), but I don't think he went to the WCs that year. I just looked it up and it appears he also made the 1997 world team but didn't compete at the WCs as well. I'm not sure why. But he was a two time WC, I think we would know more and could better judge this if he had gone to the 1997 and 1999 WCs. I think that keeps him off this list. Dake is a 4 time WC, but two of those not in Olympic weights. So again, not enough data probably. Lee Kemp - For sure. mspart

I don't think it is a matter of the state's doing the Fed's job. It is a matter of when the Feds ask the state to provide the names of all illegal aliens in their prisons and when they are getting out and the state advising them of these details so the feds can deport when the sentence runs out. If they do not do this, they are harboring an illegal alien. If they refuse to give whereabouts of individuals who are not incarcerated, that to would be a felony if they know the whereabouts. mspart

This site stalls for 10 seconds, unstalls for about 5 seconds then stalls again for 10 seconds and repeats this cycle over and over. It is very frustrating actually. I cannot see what I am typing over half the time. And then it appears. It takes too long to type even this short post. I think I am done for today. It is too frustrating. I think it is the ads doing this but not sure. But that is something that could be fixed. mspart

Tom Homan: https://www.koat.com/article/border-czar-tom-homan-sanctuary-cities-deportation/63036106 A warning to sanctuary states was given by incoming "Border Czar" Tom Homan, citing a federal law that prohibits people from protecting illegal immigrants and saying, "This is a felony to knowingly harbor concealed illegal immigration authorities. Don't test us." KOAT legal expert John Day said there's not much a state can do to resist a federal order, but if they do try to resist, he said there could be consequences. "There is a law that says if you knowingly conceal or harbor someone who's an unauthorized person, you theoretically can face federal prosecution or face fines," Day said. "What we haven't seen is if and how it applies to mayors, to governors, to people who are elected officials in states, and that's where I think the real battle may develop." Tom Homan is not messing around. mspart

We had a great Thanksgiving. We smoked the turkey and it was incredible. I'll tell you all exactly how. 1. We thawed the turkey. 2. We brined the turkey overnight. 3. We put rub on the turkey. 4. We put it in the smoker with apple wood chips for the smoke. 5. Actually the wood smoked for longer than we have ever seen. I think the turkey was in there for 2 hours with the smoke happening. Our smoker is simple. Wood box for chips when they run out of smoke, the smoking is done. 6. Pulled the turkey out after the smoke stopped and finished it in the oven with foil wrapped around it to keep the juices in. 7. Still have sandwich meat ready to go. mspart

To be honest, I would be surprised if Hunter did this. I would expect he keep his nose clean (see what I did there?) and not do anymore shenanigans. He won't have "the big guy" there to protect him anymore. mspart

I will not wager, but I think the former happens and the latter does not. I will applaud this as I feel military readiness has suffered due to the woke policies enacted in the military. mspart

Yes, I think Biden was concerned about it so he wanted to be able to say they have it under control now. This hoping on the short attn span of the electorate. Bad gamble. Hopefully Mexico is doing their part. If so, then they should have nothing to far from tariffs. mspart

I personally believe this is a joke of a prosecution. What are we about as a nation? Who do we value? A person who tries to save life, or the person threatening the lives of people trapped on tan subway train? It is obvious what Alvin Bragg values and that is the dirt bag that threatened the health and life of many on the train car who happens to be a man of color and a homeless drug addict. Bragg obviously feels that Neely is the type of person that adds more to society than Penny, who is white and was just going to his job and he restrained the more worthy drugged out crazy guy who was threatening the others on the train car. In fact, there were others that assisted Penny in restraining Neely. But Neely is more worthy than Penny, those that helped him, and those that were victimized by Neely. What this tells us is to allow crazy drugged out people to do what they do. They are blameless. Projected victims have no rights whatsoever to be safe. I certainly hope Penny is found not guilty. mspart

Many of these people come through Mexico's southern border. They need to stop the incursion into their own country. That is something they could certainly do. The drug cartels are something else altogether. Kind of mini governments with armies. Columbia made a lot of progress in their country, there is no reason to think Mexico cannot do the same. Coming across are kids that are now unknown to the US government. These kids are presumed to be involved with human trafficking now, sex slaves etc. Governments are supposed to care about this kind of thing. mspart

The founding of our country was based on liberal politics. It was against tyranny. It was against autocratic rule. It was for the rule of law. It was for representative governing. But after they were done, what were those that wanted to to remain as established called? Federalists or conservative. Now I move to unions. The original case for unions was to get people out of working to death for no pay. A laudable goal, though sometimes violent. They pretty much achieved that fairly quickly. Then what were the unions supposed to do? Stay liberal and fight the institution or go conservative and keep the gains made? They went for change. They needed more money, they supported candidates and gave them the workers money. So now we have unions that are political as well as economic. Union bosses make tons of money. Is the role of unions complete? If so, they are not needed. But they think they are needed. Currently they are demanding more and more pay until they run themselves out of a job. Airline and auto workers and long shoremen are examples. Fast food workers area also an example. Machines or cheaper labor do their work. The liberal policies of unions are not a benefit to the workers 100% Now back to government. We have a functioning government and society. Everyone wants that to continue. However liberal philosophy is opposed to "stay the same" kind of thinking. So keeping the gains made is conservative and has ho place. So they keep wanting more change. Pretty soon the change becomes crazy and liberals wonder what happened to their party. Liberals don't have a party that has gone further to the left into socialist and communist thought. Authoritarian thought which we have experienced. So what is a "classic liberal" to do? they do not like the craziness, nor are they comfortable with conservative thought but are more comfortable with it than the crazy. I believe a lot of people fall into this camp. They want to feed the homeless and those that are poor. But they do not want to feed the illegal immigrant nor house them, nor have them here. They want welfare services for those in need, not for those who could work but choose not to. Etc. Currently we have a far left where all of these things are ok. We have a conservative thought that recoils at the things that are going on. Where does the "classic liberal" go? Is there such thing as too much liberal in a society? Does there come a point where societal change is not good. I think there is this question being asked and answered in the latest election. There was a repudiation of the crazy for the not so crazy or conservative leanings. My sincere hope is that the crazies wake up and figure out their crazy talk is wrong headed and decide to stop changing society to match their inner crazy. I'm probably delusional in this wish but there you go. To sum up, I think there is a point where liberal thought gives way to crazy leftist thought. It is at that point that liberal thought has run its course. mspart

I think he would prefer to be called a classic liberal. He certainly is no leftist. He does call them straight though I think. He did not like either of the NY Trump prosecutions, called them lawfare. He did think the Jack Smith prosecutions had more teeth especially the one about the documents. He did not think much of the Georgia prosecution. He does not think much about the government censoring, wishing to censor, or colluding to censor people. He wrote a book on the 1st Amendment and how it is currently endangered by the left and those in government Those are "classic liberal" concerns. mspart

https://jonathanturley.org/2024/11/27/reimagining-the-resistance-lawfare-warriors-express-regret-but-not-remorse-after-election/ You can read the whole article, but I will just post here the last few paragraphs. He gets this absolutely right, in my opinion. The problem with the lawfare campaign is that it did not just treat the law as an extension of politics, but treated the public as chumps. A large part of the public saw these cases for what they were: the use of motivated judges in favorable jurisdictions for political advantage. These same figures claim to be “saving democracy.” The result was that liberals convinced many citizens that democracy was at risk . . . from them. What they saw was efforts at ballot cleansing to remove Trump and other Republicans from the ballots. They saw raw lawfare in New York courts. They saw Kamala Harris and other Democrats supporting an unprecedented system of censorship that one court called “Orwellian.” Liberals continue to ignore that obvious disconnection despite the polls showing that they were increasingly viewed as the threat. Voters in swing states felt that Trump is more likely to protect democracy than Kamala Harris, who was running on a “save democracy” platform. One poll asked whether Trump or Harris “would do a better job” of “defending against threats to democracy,” 43% picked Trump, while 40% picked Harris. Likewise, free speech registered as one of the greatest concerns for voters in this election after years of censorship and blacklisting from the left. Now, one of the academics who previously said that we have to reimagine our democracy and trash our constitution is advising that the election left “a Democratic Party in dire need of reimagining.” There is a point where “reimagining” everything from the police to democracy becomes less of an exercise of self-evaluation than self-delusion. What many figures like Moyn are not willing to admit is that what Democrats attempted to do with lawfare was wrong and that the public rejected it … and them. mspart
