I don’t have any issue with Jax at 1. I thought it’d be Davino, but either/or works. My gripe - and I know it’s not part of the criteria - but I really wish they spread these kids out better. I’m really not looking forward to a possible Blaze-Davino 3.0 in the semis Friday night. Just been an ugly match to watch, both times.

Exact opposite. This is what an algorithm looks like. Coaches ranking swayed things.

Coaches rank is part of the algorithm.

SUBJECTIVE CRITERIA
The committee may also consider the following subjective measures to supplement established selection and seeding
criteria:
● Bad Losses.
● Outside the top 30 CR and/or 30 RPI.
● Conference Champion.
● Performance in last five matches.
● Number of Injury default or medical forfeits wins/losses.
● Best quality win.
● Recency of win.
● Wrestler availability (injured or medically unable to compete).

How could the matrix spit out Jax at 1?  I thought it was pretty much a done deal for Davino?

There are always a few people in every organization that there are no rules for. Jax is the future of USA wrestling. Jax is the cleanest, smartest, connected family with powers to be like and respect, etc. And the best at wrestling. He is the next Cael or maybe dare I say better. His only weakness is physical strength. And that has started to equalize since he is coming up on 20 years old. And the light weights it is not as big of a deal. Didn't know if he was ready yet in that the physical man strength area but I think he is. We possibly have a 4 time undefeated champ. Someone better beat him at this NCAA tournament cause after that he is gonna absolutely destroy people. Barring injuries of course. And he has the best coach!

Seeding committee had one job, don’t put Davino/blaze and Jax/seidel on the same side

An epic failure. I have no dog in this one, but as a neutral fan it is a real loss and unfair to Davino, Blaze, and Seidel.   13 match undefeated records should not be rewarded particularly in the face of a B1G split of #1 ranked guys with razor tight overtime outcomes.   Wonder why coaches have their guys duck big matches - this idiocy.  Incentivize guys who take on top matches.

McEnnely is the only other infuriating seeding f up that appeared to me from a once through the brackets. I do not particulalry have any favorites in that weight either and just want  to see the best matchups for the selfish reason of watching great wrestling.

No he didn't.  Davino is the 2.  He beat the 3.

At the exact time of the match Blaze was the number one. Byrd had already lost. If Blaze wins the match, he would have retained number one.

Why unfair to Davino & Blaze?  They (one of em) gets to walk into the finals without having to go thru Jax, Seidel or Larkin.  🙄

He's on pace for a 72-0 career.  Impressive, but not even half-way to Carl.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

Yes cause its possible that Jax, Seidel & Larkin are the 1, 2, 3 best guys at the weight but how do we know?  The best they can finish is 1, 3, 4 but more likely 1, 3, 5.

Defending champ Byrd and 2x NCAA finalist Ayalla in each of their path - to say nothing of having to beat the only wrestler who they each lost to (each other) this year to make the finals.  It may be that the sides are balanced, but other than the (I suspect anomolous) Jax over Ayalla result we don't really know for sure whether the B1G beasts on the bottom are actually tougher than the top side beasts you mention.   Two pretty tough Ivy guys could knock somebody off as well.  We will know soon.

For my selfish interests as a fan, best to divide the B1G 1 and 2 in weights as here where they have at least 3 and perhaps four of the top guys all year.  No disrespect to Seidel, Larkin, and Jax - maybe they will prove deserving of the title and top five NCAA medals.  I still lean that the B1G 133 team overall is even stronger.  This bracket does not have enough B1G guys in the top half and visa versa.

You are correct. To many Perry's in Ohio. Massillon Perry, Perry and Perrysburg.

What seed should McEnelly have got?

Posted

Seeding committee got it right at 141 with conference balance.  Best for fans and fairness.

B1G #1 Mendez on top - where if seeds hold he face the winner of Stanich (EIWA Champ at #5) and Ech (B12 Champ at #4). Olivieri is 19-2 and #9 so its not a cake walk to make the semis.

On bottom, B1G #2 Hardy gets a rematch with undefeated from B12 champ Vega.

Something similar at 133 would have been much better and interesting.

So if Jax was still only 13-0 but one of his wins was over Davino and/or Blaze, would people still be saying he shouldn’t be seeded #1? The only argument I’m hearing against his seed is not enough matches, but there has to be a point where quality is better than quantity, right?

I think Davino #1 and Jax at #2 would have been the better way to seed it, but c’mon, this is not egregious like some people are making it sound. We have seen much worse seeds!

Misread the bracket - he is fine.  Sinclair has the short straw with the potential gauntlet of Campos, Ferrari, McEnelly, then Welsh after the first round to win the title.

Davino was ranked ahead of Jax going into conference tournament.  Davino goes on to beat the #2 ranked wrestler in the country and win his conf.  Jax goes in and wins his conf beating the #7 ranked wrestler.  I've never seen a wrestler in Davino's scenario get jumped like that.

So in essence Davino is getting punished for wrestling an entire season with a harder schedule

exactly - also not great for fans to separate B1G guys on one side - already seen much of those battles

Well............this just gives guys an excuse to not wrestle a full schedule.

I'm keeping tabs on those who are ok with the seeding.  Next year when they get on their high horse about the importance of the regular season I'm putting them on blast.
