Pump the brakes sir, I’m just stating a fact. Whether it has any bearing? So let me get this straight, you’re saying Nolf is Full of shit.

I didn't like Nolf's take on the Rocco no TD,(we're both biased)  but I was biased enough to bite on the Big ten tourney claim.

He obviously didn't mean it literally.  He's a guy who talks so intelligently about the sport.  It's unfortunate that fans in this thread have latched onto his take like it was a real opinion.

He is a guy who’s full of it ? Or talks intelligently about the sport.?Which is it?

It depends who you ask.  I said he talks intelligently and you are the only one to say he's full of it.

I like Nolf, a lot.  If i heard it correctly he was saying you have tough matches from the start at Bigs and at nationals you might get a break by wrestling weaker other conference guys.  I realize he was just pumping up the Big10 as the "premiere" conference, which it is but maybe not the best guy to deliver this...We all know little ole' ACC guy Hayden Hidlay won that match or at minimum was a takedown.  Nolf said it himself, i knew i was taken down.  Maybe he comes back and wins but i don't think he would have.  HH was unreal that year.  He also mentioned Vincenzo...yea the one that got cradled up by another ACC afterthought a the time...#8 Mekhi.  This is a little tongue and cheek but just a mention.  I do think it was silly to suggest there aren't any lower level guys at BIGS.  I do think nationals is harder,...more weigh ins, more unfamiliar foes, more matches, obviously he would know but I think he was just being a little hyperbolic since he won more nattys

Jason Nolf said Big Ten tournament is harder than the NCAA.

I stated Joe Duduque won 2 NCAA’s. And no Big Ten titles.

I say Jason may have a point.

You said what?  Not winning any big ten titles has nothing to do with what Jason said.
I say you’re calling Mr. Nolf out.

I agree that you brought up Joe Dubuque and I told you it had nothing to do with this.  And I agree that you equated someone disagreeing with you to someone insulting Jason Nolf.

I feel like one of our analytics nerds already proved this out, but isn't it just basic probability? Statistically, winning a title at Nationals is harder than winning Big Tens, but Big Tens is tough because the brackets are extremely stacked with talent. It's just that the bracket at NCAAs tends to get progressively tougher as you advance, whereas the B1G bracket is thicc from the start with less room for variability.

At NCAAs you have qualifiers from all conferences, so your average opponent in the first couple of rounds will probably be weaker than the average B1G opponent. But it's a much bigger tournament, so there's more variance in outcomes, and the the tail end of the distribution is stronger since you have tough opponents from all conferences. Breadth vs. depth models.

He was joking . . . but there's always a little truth in jokes.

Good points. It's probably true for conference tournaments in general. You're wrestling all rivals. It's just different. There's also non probability items like: you wrestle differently at NCAAs because its the big dance, or because its the longest tournament of the year. There are more injuries at NCAAs because its the end of the season. Etc.

The irony here is that obviously for every B10 wrestler that wins NCAAs but didn't win B10s, there is someone that won Big10s and didn't win NCAAs.

It's a zero sum game where for every anecdote you have a counter anecdote in return.

You might be able to argue that B10s is harder physically as it's a more condensed two day tournament, but it's certainly not harder to win than NCAAs.

The difference is that NCAAs is a 32 man bracket instead of 16.  But the NCAA round of 16 is much tougher than the Big Ten round of 16. NCAA is deeper and more top heavy.

In 2024 the big ten final at 133lbs Dylan Schawver teched Dylan Ragusin.  Ragusin finished 5th and Schawver 7th at NCAAs that year.  This year Schawver enters NCAAs  the 26th seed at 133 and Ragusin did not qualify at 141.  Intermat has Ragusin ranked #30.

Hard to imagine;e these were ever the top two 133s in the conference.

Nolf also said High School wrestling was much harder than college. I also heard him say this at a camp.

Yes.  Because he was training much harder.  I think two practices a day.  I think PSU practice was more geared toward fun.

DT has said similar things.  Said he had a lot of difficulty understanding why Cael would tell him to take a day off early in his career.
