NYT - Athletic - has article about Notre Dame football coach Marcus Freeman being accused of battery stemming from  altercation at a tournament his son wrestled at …. The altercation was with Chris Fleeger, assistant coach at New Prairie HS.

If it is the Purdue AA it just seems weird.  Wonder what the hell happened and how bad it was for Fleeger to feel a need to press charges.  Must have gotten hurt … physically.

I believe it is that Fleeger. I saw this on a PSU board…

BREAKING: Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman has been accused of battery by high school wrestling coach Chris Fleeger from an incident that occurred at a tournament on January 3rd.

Freeman was in attendance supporting his son, Vinny Freeman, a Cornell wrestling commit. Vinny wrestles for Penn High School and is a senior.

“Fleeger filed a police report this past week, accusing Freeman of battery. Mishawaka police investigated and turned over the completed report to the prosecutor’s office to determine if any charges will be filed. It is unknown how long that charging decision will take and if any charges will be filed at all,” the report said.

“The altercation allegedly took place after Vinny Freeman’s match against Hanover Central senior Israel Sinnott, which Vinny lost. As Vinny was escorted off the mat and out of the gym by Marcus and Penn head coach Brad Harper, Fleeger allegedly began exchanging words with the group.”

Freeman reportedly walked through the doorway into the hallway, and physical contact between him and Fleeger allegedly occurred. Police did not disclose the extent of the alleged contact.

Fleeger and Freeman’s wife, Joanna, allegedly engaged in a shouting match before local law enforcement and Mishawaka school officials separated the two groups. The Freeman family left the school voluntarily, despite not being asked to leave the premises.

Notre Dame athletics issued the following statement in response to the battery accusations made against Freeman:

“Vinny Freeman, head coach Marcus Freeman’s son, was verbally accosted during and after his wrestling match by a local wrestling coach. Marcus and Joanna Freeman intervened and removed Vinny from the situation. At no point did Coach Freeman physically engage with anyone. We believe that the police report, which includes video evidence, fully exonerates Coach Freeman and makes clear these accusations are totally unfounded.”

One thing is for sure, Freeman must have done something incredibly violent, chris fleeger would NEVER fake an injury at the risk of his reputation.

need some clips of fleeger crushing Bunch a few hours later.

I remembered it being worse on Reiters part but he didn't even turtle back him, he was obvously creating an angle for the purposes of wrestling, not much else he could have done sense the refs didnt stop it.

DUDE F THAT REF.

Watched the thing develop for an eternity and then immediately blows it illegal because fleeger made a noise. He screwed up, realized someone had to be blamed and tried to make sure it wasn't him.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Huh?  Reiter setup and planned a full slam into mat with his weight on top for the gravy.  Pretty damn obvious slam.  Good illegal move call.

Guessing sarcasm given reaction to the video.  Seriously though - it must have been damn serious for a former AA wrestler to press charges for battery.

I don't agree, if he wanted to hurt him he would have gone straight back.

And you didn't address the main point, why didn't the ref stop it.

unless he's not very ethical and knew he was dealing with a guy who had a reputation to protect and money to throw around.

Chris Fleeger is/was an incredibly tough wrestler.  He is also kind of...a divisive personality might be a good way to say it.

That’s it!! lol. Sadly, a google search of Fleeger + Buddha statue only turns up this thread. The internet does decay and dies like only existentialist poetry could appreciate.

Dana White has been asked to put together a fundraiser for Big 10 Wrestling. So he is going with a main card of Fleeger vs Freeman!

Word is that Poetta's wife has the contract for the sale of the official event t-shirts.
