HEW?

What does Spencer have to do with the US Government of Health, Education & Welfare?

Lee has lost the last 3 matches he’s wrestled including getting teched at Worlds and pinned last night at RAF.  Is it a case of HEW? Is it time to move his training out of Iowa City?

Placing wrestling shoes in the center of the ring is a symbolic gesture of retirement from the sport. It’s time Spencer Lee does just that. Did you see the entire crowd giving Ben Askren a standing ovation. Now that was nice! 👏🏻

Exactly. As a former Hawkeye I'd expect Spencer to be a disease vector, not a preventer of it.

The way they call freestyle pins I thought this one could have been called 5 seconds earlier, but it was pretty dramatic having it called with about 1 second remaining. Bonus drama for having Yatsenko cornered by NLWC Jake Varner and RBY.

Lee looked like he just gave up the way he was bulled over so easily to his back like that

He no longer has that built in strength advantage over his opponents is what I am seeing.

Thank goodness you posted that in a bigger size as it makes it easier to pinpoint how f'ing stupid you are...

He seemed much more aggressive against Ono than in this match and that wasn’t too long

Does Yatsenko actually train there?  There weren’t even any NLWC guys on the card right?

It's been a while since Spencer has looked excited to wrestle.  I don't know what the solution is -- different training regimen, change training location, move to coaching, retire. But what I do know is I hate seeing someone out there wrestling solely because that's what people expect and you don't want to let them down or deal with being called a quitter.  Especially when it's as likeable a kid as Spencer.

But I'm rooting for him to advocate for himself, not succumb to expectations, not subjugate his best interests to loyalty, and that he either rediscovers the passion to compete or, if needed, has the courage to move on.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I know this is a pastry troll thread, but he seemed pretty happy in this interview:

I thought it was interesting how he talked about when he was upset after getting silver, he says he wasn’t upset that he lost, he was upset because he wanted to give the fans a better match

Oh God, could you imagine if he left? Felt it was better for his Olympic dreams to train elsewhere? He’s all Iowa has left. I shudder to think the effect that would have on an already fragile fan base and program.

Iowas fragile fan base ?    Are all these new psu fans here cause the Iowa board was shut down?

Iowas board was shut down? Iowa has a board?? What lead to the shut down - the CyHawk loss or the super classy comment made in the match thread?? Where will people go to get their racial slurs if the Iowa board is closed??
