This is my first post - I have increasingly been getting into wrestling over time and happy to be here

From my perspective, 184 has a really exciting weight class this year with Max McEnelly, Rocco Welsh and Angelo Ferrari. I was a bit surprised to see some preseason rankings with Rocco Welsh more towards the bottom of that list given his performance as a true freshman, international success and higher age group (though I guess he is moving up in weight) but again am a bit newer  to following the sport

Was curious to hear from a more informed perspective on how you guys thought those 3 stack up and who would be the best this year

Thanks a lot

It’s gotta be one of the best weight classes in a while.  Don’t sleep on Aedon  Sinclair either.  He beat McEnelly once at the world team trials and was damn close in the other one.  He’s right there.

My question is can McEnelly get to Ferrari’s legs?  Max is so good from space and that one touch range but Ferrari doesn’t allow anything from space with his 3 point stance before he engages.  I’ve been impressed with Ferrari since his who’s number one days.  I’ll go Ferrari 1, Max 2 and Aedon 3.  I think all 3 are better than Welsh but PSU has a couple good guys around his weight in the room so that might help!

Zach Ryder and Brock Mantanona will have a thing or two to say about it.

Great first post.

I have it McEnelly, Welsh, Ferrari. Though I could be convinced it should be Welsh, McEnelly, Ferrari.

Ferrari sure is getting a lot of credit for, basically, one win. It's a really good win and as an Iowa fan I'm eggcited for his prospects but I don't think I would rank him higher than 4th

Who are the 3 you'd have in front of him?

If no one figures out a way around Angelo’s 3 point stance, I will quit this sport. Not really, but there is a counter for everything so there has to be a counter for that.

Mcn, Welsh, and the next highest returning placer. Heck, I think Smith and Allred both have a case to be ranked ahead of Ferrari. That's of course based on my own personal opinion and preference for ranking guys with at least one full season of work above freshmen, even very talented ones

Everyone should back up and return to center every time he does it.

He’ll get banged for stalling multiple times a match if people really sell it.

It is one thing to go to the mat due to being engaged with the opponent, but purposely going to the mat seems wrong.

We give points for step outs, why not for step downs?

We don't give points for step outs in college wrestling.  I'm fine penalizing the drop to a knee, but I think it's a weird thing to get worked up about in a sport with far worse examples of stalling.   The entire country parallel riding for RT and wrestling the edge in neutral seem like much bigger problems.

Welsh also gets a ton of credit for making the NCAA finals when his best win in the tournament was Edmund Ruth. Starocci, Lewis, and Griffith all being on the topside due to the Starocci 9 seed really paved a path for him. I obviously think that Welsh is very good, but McEnelly will be my pick when they wrestle for the first time.

Can't take someone down who won't get up.

He’s a 36 year senior 100 time ncaa champ proclaiming he’s the best ever.  It’s too bad he didn’t have enough offense to take down a true freshmen.

The offemse that was so bad it scared someone into wrestling from his knees out of bounds.

Hall of fame candidate with man strength and the best room on earth shouldn’t be whining about not being able to score against a kid true freshmen.

He didn't whine. You are the only one whining about it. You have whined five straight posts, whiner.

Pretty sure everyone here knows step outs are freestyle. The point is that "wrestling" rules are malleable. It's still wrestling.
