Question for @Husker_Du, had you and Basch heard rumors of these types of allegations prior to it becoming public?

i never heard anything remotely close to this.

there were always accusations that psu messed around with performance enhancers, and it's been said that Carter is a handful and a pain in the ass, but i've never heard anything (prior to this) about bullying or inappropriateness in any way.

you guys are right that upon the first post (by Beau on the psu forum) i took this less seriously. to me it sounded like locker room beef.

when the article came out, it became clear that it wasn't that simple (to put it mildly).

that's not what anyone said, and a distinction that everyone seems to be glossing over.

you can write about it, you can talk about it,

but you can't position the allegations as facts. you can't condemn or indict based on allegations, no matter how true you think the allegations are. that's just sloppy and irresponsible.

i ain't doing it, that's for sure, and you can all hate away on me or call me whatever you want.

The ole innocent until proven guilty approach huh? Curse you for following our great country's due process.

This is something that follows all sports and their successful athletes and/or teams.

The ole "They are too good, so they must be cheating!" shenanigans.

You know it's strongly against journalism ethics to publish off-the-record conversations correct? And in some instances can even lead to legal issues.

yeah but if you are having private conversations for no other reason than feigning insider status you aren't a journalist.

Had me until here.  You can’t poo poo allegations prior to facts if you take this stance.

you can also use the word allegedly.

I think all we can ask of you is that you do your due diligence and share what you feel is to correct to share. It's better to report nothing than to report something inaccurately. Those of us with zero inside connections really have seen one article and accusations from somebody who many of us view as a credible source, but nothing else. I don't see how anyone could have a problem with what you have shared given how early things are.

I remember when the Ohio State news was first breaking on the older forums. There was pretty strong sentiment that it was BS or overblown because it was coming from DiSabato.  It turns out that his accusations were correct and if anything understated the problem. Obviously the length of Starocci's involvement in the program and type of accusations here are very different than the Ohio State situation. But we just don't know what (if anything) else will come out next.

The more I listen to the The "quad pod" cast , the more I like it. 4 hosts who manage to have a nuanced discussion or debate on current topics or news without  yelling at each other or talking down to, berating, or ranting at wrestling fans. So far, none of the hosts have called D1 wrestlers pu$$ies so they clear that low hurdle of ethics and professionalism. They also manage to do an entire episode, sometimes spanning nearly 2 hours, without spitting into a cup so there's that too

Thanks for the heads up on this pod cast.  Listened for a bit …. Started out with a quick discussion on a few topics including American University.  Refreshing.  Other podcasts give such tiny airtime for other programs.  Flo is so Iowa, OkSt and Penn State focused it is disappointing (not just related to controversies).
