It is evil of me to really hope this guy gets elected?  Is it evil of me to hope that New York City voters get a full measure of exactly what they have/are voting into office?

The problem is that many of the consequences of their choices won't become apparent immediately but will affect citizens for years to come.   It is the suffering of the people who can't vote in this election that checks my schadenfreude a bit. I have no concern for the adults don't currently live in NY who freely choose to move there and then must suffer.  It is the children who currently live there who will grow up and inherit the situation that keep my glee in check.  These are the victims of the left and poor election choices of those who preceded them.

People who tolerate me on a daily basis . . . they are the real heroes.

We are living it here in Seattle and Portland.   Two cities that were voted the most livable just a few years ago are now not and not bu\y a long shot.   And getting back is not in the cards at this point.   They seem to be happy in their anarchy.

I kinda hope he gets elected.  I’m thinking about putting up my house next spring/summer, which would be just a few months after he takes office.  Another New York exodus to South Florida would be good for the market!

I'd wait a bit. Housing prices are falling in cesspool Florida and rising in wonderful NY.

He’s barely even a liar lol… communist cheating to get ahead of others… anyone see that coming?

I saw this and originally thought "what the heck??", but realized that what he checked was a box that said black or African American, which technically he is African American given that he was born in Uganda.

I guess technically...and probably depends on the actual intent/definition of "African American".  I assume the intent of the use of African American was to mean black; however, maybe not?

Anywho, I still think the guy is a whackadoodle and still can't believe that he is the democratic candidate for Mayor.

It makes sense when you know the Mamdani family background. HIs father is a very famous Indo-Ugandan intellectual. There was a large Indian diaspora community in Uganda. Indians were expelled from the country by Idi Amin in 1972. Mamdani was a very outspoken opponent of this and very invested in his identity as a Ugandan. He was able to return in the 80s after the dictatorship fell and that's where Zohran was born.

Mamdani's main project as an intellectual was affirming his identity as an African. It's not surprising that his son would affirm that identity. He wrote in "Ugandan" on the application, in addition to checking Asian. Also, his dad was teaching at the university (and one of its most famous professors). There was a 0% chance there would be any confusion over his race.

Here's an example: This was published in his father's book 5 years before he applied to college.

Really, really bad reporting from the NYT (as usual). They got this scoop from an avowed white supremacist, race scientist guy on twitter and did basically no vetting. Embarrassing for the paper.

NYC would have to be out of their gourd to vote him in and vote a majority of like minded people into the city council or similar.   That would be very bad.   He will be very bad but he cannot enact his policy designs without a compliant city council.  Hopefully he does not get that if he wins.   I think they will not go for him.   I hope they won't, but if they do, I kind of hope he gives them what he wants.  The problem is that it is very hard to reverse the degradation that he will want to put on NYC.

the zohan wants to start up govt run grocery stores

Would the employees be city employees?  Union?  With all the added benefits and expense that would preclude low prices.  It might not even be able to compete with private owned stores.  If he has to raise taxes to cover costs it doesn’t help much, does it?

Acknowledging that he can’t enact most of his plan without legislation by the city and state assemblies.

“We're not going to have -- if a communist gets elected to run New York, it can never be the same. But we have tremendous power at the White House to run places when we have to," Trump said.

Trump didn't elaborate on what authority that would be as he then turned his focus to the nation's capital.”
