I’m not sure if Iowa guys actually get hurt any more than PSU guys though.   I think PSU’s secret sauce is more in their technique/scouting than the training methods.  Just look at the number of times they had guys lose during the regular season only to come back and beat them in the postseason.

Yeah, that very well may be a result(at least in part) to how their training progresses and how they peak at the end of the season... whereas Iowa seems to only have one speed all year long.

It really is impressive.  I can't remember who I heard recently talk about "PSU training methods," but it was one of their recent stars.  Maybe Lilledahl? Whomever it was was talking about how much live they do and how hard they go, which surprised the interviewer.  The wrestler then added something to the effect of :"Yeah, we go hard."

Nah. It's all sparring and dodgeball.

The playing field has definitely been leveled.

U20 team - Iowa and Penn State combined for 5 of the 10 spots.  No one else had more than 1.

U23 team - Iowa and Penn State combined for 7 of the 10 spots.

12 of 20 spots or 60% of the teams are Iowa and Penn State combined if all of the U23 spot winners opt to take them.

Huh?

Edit: Nvm.  You're also including the gents who 'might' claim their U23 spot from Senior MFS.

A lot have already indicated they will claim their rightful slot.

86 had multiple all-americans since no one from the national team was age eligible as an example as there were some really weak weight classes in weights where the national team member is obviously claiming the spot.

Idk if anyone caught this, but excellent troll job here @Coastal. One of the funniest things I've ever read on this board.

For reference to anyone who didn't pick up on it, Penn State put 5 on the U20 team (Iowa put 0) and Penn State put 7 on the U23 team (Iowa put 0).

This is the only thread in which I've posted that.

Maybe Iowa fans' misunderstanding of words like "multiple" are why they've made comments like "Gabe Arnold will win multiple national championships".

Bassett is going to develop much more In college.  If there's one thing the Brands teach, it's dynamic offense.

Half of the U20 team is Penn State and Iowa combined so it's definitely the place for Bassett to develop his world aspirations.

My apologies... you posted the same joke twice on the same thread.  I guess you can probably try again tomorrow.  Love how the supposed PSU fans are drawn to any thread about Iowa wrestlers or recruits.  You guys are great, you're on top! Enjoy the feeling!

Meh, historically it’s not like it just happened against Iowa guys though.   Or are you saying every other team except PSU trains too hard?

This year though they had a few guys on the opposite end of that trend:

Lilledahl (Seymour)

Bartlett (Mendez)

Van Ness (Webster)

I'm not a Penn State fan, just really dislike Iowa.   Was saving the "even backups at Iowa State can make an U23 team, why can't anyone from Iowa make U20 or U23 comment for later"

3 guys who took 3rd, two of whom played higher than the guy you're talking about and the other who lost the TB to the now 2X defending Champ.

I honestly don't care what Iowa does or who it happens to, I'm just wondering how much whining a couple people can do about Penn State's injuries...and then bring up a list full of National Champs. Seems kinda silly.

I don’t really agree with a lot of the guys on that list, some didn’t really get injured until after graduating, some only had one injury that occurred during a match which I would put in a different category, and some probably just had fake injuries so they could get a medical redshirt.

I do think it’s fair to include Cassar and Kerk on the list though, despite being national champions.  Spencer Lee was a national champion and Iowa often gets criticized about his injury, so those people should also criticize PSU about Cassar and Kerk.  They’ve also had other guys with multiple nagging injuries though: Shakur Rasheed, Robbie Howard, Brady Berge to name a few off the top of my head.

Bottom line I don’t think PSU has a “problem” with guys getting injured, but IMO I don’t think Iowa really has any more notable injuries than PSU does.

Yeah...well, I didn't agree with Iowa being blamed for Lee either. He lost the State Finals as a Sr because of a knee injury.

Injuries happen. I never viewed it as just having injuries. I can't imagine a Wrestler making it through the level of Wrestling required to make it to a B1G program(so a LOT of high level HS competition)...then 5 years in the B1G and not getting injuries.

I guess it's kinda irrelevant as... this discussion will continue(on every thread).

Sorry to burst your bubble, but didn't Michael Caliendo make the U23 team?

Sorry to burst your bubble Mr. Pastry, but it's MM's spot by way of making the senior national team.

And even if MM makes the senior world team and opts to not do the U23 team, the next in line would be J. Blaze (if he wins his true 3rd match at FX).

4th place has the option to take the U23 slot even though they wouldn't make the national team.   If MM does not take the spot, J. Blaze can take it, regardless of the outcome of the 3rd place match.  Same with M. Blaze at 65 even if he loses to Hardy since those above him are not age eligible.

So, I was correct. Caliendo is not on the U23 world team @Jimmy Cinnabon.
