That's an intelligent response.

Penn State has more than 20 untouchable wrestlers on the roster that would never be cut.

Lilledahl, Desmond, Davis, Nagao, Ono, Blaze, Perry, Cunningham, Van Ness, Kasak, Duke, Sealey, Mesenbrink, Haines, Henckel, Cunningham, Welsh, Barr, Mirasola, Cochran, Mirasola... are all safe.

Davis, Nagao, Cunningham, Cunningham, Perry and Cochran all could be cut for one reason or another

Yea, they are going to cut the kids of arguably the best coach in the country.  Especially the one who is a top 10 recruit.   Perry is a top 30 recruit who isn't costing wrestling a dime since a parent works there. Cochran barely lost the spot to a national finalist.  He's bumped up and beaten an all American HWT.  I'm surprised he didn't Bearclaw and AA somewhere else.

If they weren't grandfathered in you take Cunningham's kids/Perry and have them wrestle club bc they don't need any scholarship money, can still train with the team, and aren't in the two deep any time soon. Cochran is a senior and Mirasola is just as good with a lot more eligibility so that could open up a roster spot

Everyone else is competing YET their fanbases type away and make it appear as if they STILL need Cael's stamp of approval. Unbelievable.

The event hasn't even happened, PSU isn't even in it, and I feel like Penn State has already won it.

Weren't your feelings hurt bc it is called the "National Duals?"

Yes, you get rid of Cochran for the same reason Postal said Kennedy couldn't make the team... bc there is someone younger who is projected to be better.

Also: Who would think PSU would stoop to nepotism?  I thought only Iowa did that?

Agreed, their backups could be competitive. Teams can't do everything, Midlands used to be fun CKLV is always great and now the entire sport is budgeting to send a squad to this event and it seems like they're turning their nose up at it

This is a great idea. It's a preseason tournament, why not send a backup team? It would be fun as hell to see how they measure up

Maybe the tournament should take the PSU $200k and give it to Flo to ensure that one of their broadcasts actually work beginning to end.

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that he doesn't want to participate in the event as it is hosted by Oklahoma State and HC David Taylor. Their participation would show them willingly cooperating and supporting the event hosted by turncoat David Taylor.

If this was going to be hosted by PSU, I think Cael would host it, win, and cash the check for $200k. It's stubbornness of wanting to discredit the event his former pupil is hosting by not participating.

There is a reason that they are the only school in D1 wrestling that opted out. People can say it's because Cael only does what helps win in March, but I believe there is more to it than that.

I agree that Cael is being stubborn, but I think it has more to do with his not wanting to be nudged into supporting National Duals than animosity towards Taylor.

This might be a topic for a whole separate thread, but hypothetically if Cael decides to retire tomorrow, do you think DT would accept the PSU job? Would Cael push the AD into hiring Taylor as his successor?

My take is that he doesn't want any momentum to having Duals decide the team championship as there are plenty who already want that change instead of the NCAA tournament.

As to PSU's next coach, I think it really depends on what Casey Cunningham wants. I think Casey would be the choice with Cody Sanderson if it was Cael's choice.
