Playing around with the placement data and I noticed that while ISU averaged more than 7 national qualifiers per year from 2014 - 2025, they had only 1 in 2018 (Jarrett Degen went 3-2, scoring 3 team points). Followed by years of 9, 8, 9, 8, 9, 8 national qualifiers.

What am I missing? What happened in 2018?

Kevin Jackson happened.  Program killer.  Even Michigan is starting to take a massive step backwards.

I blame his wife. 🤷🏿

He seems beloved by individual athletes and seemed to do well in his most recent USA Wrestling stint, at least from the standpoint of athlete success (except for the Cox incident).  Somehow when he gets involved with a college program, things quickly disintegrate.
