Now do Oklahoma State

One coach is in his 2nd offseason, the other his 17th I believe? One hasn’t had a a chance yet to build his roster through recruiting, the other has. You’re not really comparing the two situations, are you?

Haha I think you could just leave it at "one makes his wrestlers better..."

I think they both develop who they have/get fairly well, you referring to DT and transfers?

Please explain, strange that you would say that. I’d relate it quite similarly to Mark Pope at Kentucky. Sorry for the basketball reference/analogy

Nah I was referring to the old hat dig at the brands that they buy winners instead of building wrestlers.  Obviously it’s a bit overblown, but also not entirely untrue.

I see. And yeah, I don’t know how someone can say it’s not to some degree. I’d be really frustrated if I was a Nebraska fan or say, Clemson football with the opposition towards adding transfers, but my point initially was that David Taylor has to, while Tom and Iowa maybe…shouldn’t? They’re completely different situations with the time they’ve had to build their programs, create their culture, and find the talent aspects they value. Turnover is more typical for newer coaches in whatever NCAA sport, more stability later.

It’s shocking Iowa is still in this position where so much overhaul is necessary to compete at the top tier. I think they’re getting it figured out a little more with their ‘26 class.

Weird comment.  On what planet should they not use transfers.   Everyone is doing it including psu Michigan etc.    on what planetary orbit should Iowa not and okst psu Michigan should?

Noooooo, not what I mean. They’d be insane not to with the last two rosters. Every team should in some capacity. “Shouldn’t” refers to position/situation context and why are they in those they’ve been in lately with the volume and percentages. Obviously some failure in the recruiting domain.

I look at Michigan very similarly, just more extreme in the struggle. People don’t talk about elements of things who aren’t as competent and not a threat.

Ok boss.  If I misunderstood what you said my apologies.   No worries at the end of the day.   It’s all good.

Every program misses on some recruits.  Some just don't pan out like everyone thought they would.  It is the coach's job to put the best team on the mat that they possibly can.  If that means dipping into portal to fill holes in the roster then they absolutely should.  I don't care if it is Iowa, PSU or Ok St.  These programs are not doing anything wrong.  This is the game now and if you don't take advantage of the portal then you are not improving your roster.  At the end of the day, results are what matters and is the difference between keeping or losing your job.  A coach would be a fool not to use the portal to their advantage.

I really think in today's environment it is really a nonstory. You can't sit and wait for Angelo Ferrari to say I would rather wrestle for David Taylor. You potentially have to be ready to lose any/all on the team.

Always have to be looking to get better. That is the environment that the free movement people didn't fully anticipate.
