Started as a sophomore because team needed a HWT.  Had a terrible first season, but put the work in going forward because I grew to fall in love with the sport.  Cut down to 195 for my final 2 seasons of HS before going HWT. for club team in college.  Got into coaching for a few seasons upon graduation.  The 10 years I was deeply involved with the sport were some of the most important times of my life.  I have not stepped on a mat in over 3 years at this point, and I miss it so much.  Maybe one day work/life situations will change to where I can get involved with coaching again.

Thank you, wrestling.

4th grade 120 pounds

9th 171

10th 275 weighing about 200

11th 215

12th 215

RS and RsFR 197

Finished in the dancing bear weight class, was able to "bulk" up to 248 for a single day. Not fun do not recommend.

I'm currently training for another Boston Marathon where I'm hoping to stay under 2:47 and this morning was 188.6 two weeks out going into taper madness. Pre-race double dinner and morning liquids for the late start should get me up to around 202-4 at the line in Hopkinton.

That is damn impressive. I don't think I know any former bigs who became marathon runners. How has it been on your knees after wrestling?

Totally fine because proper form goes a long way. I'm down ~20 mpw from before because life but still putting in 2500+ miles annually and do a couple Pfitz 18/86 each year because I wanted to remind me that I hate myself

What's your go-to shoe? I took up trail running when the pandemic hit and have been enjoying it, but my knees get pretty torqued sometimes. Part of it might be because I don't like high stack foamy shoes (like Ons) even though I'm a heavy heel striker. My wife, a pavement runner, swears by her Vaporflies and says I should give them a try but one of my buddies thinks they're overrated and will shame anyone who wears them. lol

I'm not the best resource for trail running because I stick to the pavement sorry. Novablasts for easy days, I'm digging the Evo SL and love that the Peg Turbo is back (called Pegasus Plus now) for workouts, and I'm a hefty fella so I rock Alphaflys for halves and fulls / Vaporfly 10k and down + track workouts.

9: 126 JV

10: 145 JV

11: 167 V (weighed about 158; 132, 138, 145, 155 weights below were all-state, so no reason to pull weight)

12: 185 V (weighed no more 162; same as above except now 167 was also all-state; at the end of the year I had to make sure I weighed at least 158 to wrestle 185)

Current weight not applicable as I went to college and grew 2+ inches but in my mind I could have been pretty damn tough at the current HS 190/215 weight classes if only I could have grown up earlier...

I was pretty good in College after my 1st year, staying within ~20 pounds, but HS, first couple years was tough. Came out of FB at 185, then 190, 195, ~200...so that got easier(though I was 6'3 225 apparently as a Sr...I guess that was more intimidating than a 6' 205 RB...who ran a LEGIT ~4.2 30!

152, 160, 170, 182

That's awesome...the Marathon. I USED to love to run. When I was coming out of Football, I'd decide I was going to run for a whole game. Football or Basketball(yes, I was a fan) but at a nice slow pace and on a treadmill....NOTHING close to a Marathon, even on a treadmill, but I loved doing it.  I'm working on getting back into it, but the knees have aren't exactly in pristine shape and one hip needs a new surface, but I still know NOTHING makes you feel better, even when it sucks, then getting back out there. I do feel like the more you do it, your legs actually feel better. Though, at this point, I haven't ran 10-15 if you combine the last 5 times I went for a run. Usually just two miles and I am dealing with severe oxygen deprivation syndrome.

I was also a fellow 120 4th grader. 140 in 5th grade. I thought I was gonna be 6'4-6'5...I ended up growing growing maybe half an inch from there on(and again, the FB dreams were dashed).

Good luck with the Marathon. I hope you'll update us.

I lost a good bit of muscle when taking up running as my primary workout.  I doubt I can bench half as much now as I could at the end of HS (and not gonna try to find out:)).

1999 2000 2001...Michigan 189 took 5th my first year ever wrestling I was a football linebacker and basically learned a few moves and muscled my way to all my victories... the next two years after getting in a little experience I took third and second at 215.  But I chose to play college football division 2... I definitely wouldn't have been division one wrestling material when you got strength and learn a little bit in the upper weight in high school it's easy to muscle out matches LOL
