The Locked On Nittany Lions guy thinks Josh Barr may go down to his more natural weight and compete for 184 and that played a part in why Zack Ryder hit the portal.

Would make it hard for Welsh to remain unless Levi takes his redshirt or leaves (not sure why he would).  I don't see Welsh jumping up to 197

Agree... I don't see anything changing .They have their lineup and PSU is good at getting guys bigger for their weight, so Barr will be fine.  The most obvious take on Ryder is that he got recruited over and he's leaving.  It might be time for Cael to realize that some of his guys that have Natty title dreams are not going to ride the bench. Who's next to leave? Gotta be 133.

Interesting. Maybe the plan is Haines takes a redshirt, Welsh stays at 174 (someone said elsewhere that he's wrestling 174 this summer), Barr to 184, then both Mirasolas can fit in the lineup?

Welsh said he wants to go 184.

I don't know why Barr would go down, he is the returning finalist   If PSU buys AJ and bumps him to HWT, then it eliminates his biggest threat and Barr will enter next year as a strong favorite.

Marasolas might need to get "hurt" playing dodgeball and get a medical to avoid losing a year of eligibility.

Mirasolas would be riding the bench for multiple yrs. They need to get their rear ends into the portal too.

There’s just no way. Why would he?

I think it's his more natural weight and he went up to 197 because of Carter. Without a returning starter at 184, he might want to go to the weight he's best at. I agree with the consensus that it wouldn't be what's best for the lineup, but if we're to believe Cael, he lets the guys sort it out themselves.

He’s a returning finalist and the highest placing returning guy. If he had made the blood round, or even placed like, 5th, sure. But especially if Ferrari were to move up to HWT, I expect Barr to be dominant at 197. He might be dominant even if Ferrari doesn’t bump.

The locked on Nittany lions guy wasn't a wrestler and he has several clueless takes.  He covers all sports and is a master of none.   Jeff Byers is on the pod pretty often and he has a better take.  Barr is going 197.  He was not undersized.

Debatable!   He's a little light/small for the weight and seems like 184 might be a better weight all other things being equal.  But competition is thinner at 197 and an NCAA title may be more likely there, IMHO.

Barr isn’t going 184. End of story.

I agree - also do not underestimate how Barr's FS aspirations affect this decision.  He wants to be a world class 86Kg guy (189.2lbs) It will be better for him to be at 197 and then drop the 7 lbs for FS than to be cutting 5 lbs under for a whole folkstyle season - he will not go back down unless Connor Mirasola beats him out for the spot which I think is unlikely (but not impossible)
