Sounds like fun.  Kudos for offering prize money, but am I the only one who thinks $200k top prize is very low?

What do other tournaments past and present pay?

Nothing, obviously. But $200,000 for national champion in a sport? What is it in football, $20 million or so?

I guess the word “National” in the name of this event is confusing people. It’s an invitational dual tournament.

“Championship” is not in the name of the event.

Also, comparing to football money is kinda silly.

(This is my first post, by the way. I discovered the forums here a couple months ago and kept coming back.)

Even still, how much does the NCAA champion bring home?

And yeah, comparing football money to wrestling is just trolling.

Who gets the $20M?

Google shows that all the teams that qualified for the playoff got $4 million, then $4 million for making the quarterfinals, the $6 million each in the semifinals and finals.

You really should talk to the "World Series" folk ... it's more like a US Invitational.

But who gets the $4M or $6M or $12M?  Do you think they write out a check to the coach or does this go to DIA or University?  Im guessing the $200k being small dollars in whole university budget it's not worth splitting up and it stays with the wrestling program.

I'm sure it's written out to the university.

IN: Wyoming, Lehigh, ASU, Little Rock, and Mizzou.  Alternates: WVU and SDSU

Ugh. ASU is going to be absolutely rancid next year. That's a bad invite. Yeah, I know it's based on final rankings this year.

Crazy they let JC teams in..... yeah, should have went by projections for next year not this year. ASU lost their top two scorers and didn't replace them with scorers.

If you want to bump it to $400k I'm sure Chad will appreciate you.  Of course we could always go back to zero like in the past.  It appears no matter what the numer Boring will be disappointed and Carl will say no.

Is there a short list of psu wrestlers that intended to wrestle that specific season try to qualify for worlds?

Because I am petty:

U20 team: Blaze, Duke, Henckel, Mirasola, Mirasola.

U23 team: Lilledahl, Blaze, Duke, Mesenbrink, Haines, Welsh, Barr.

Now, I wasn't a physics major, nor am I or a rocket surgeon, but I think that is 50% and 70% of the U20 and U23 teams, respectively.

We have a whole thread on this one, don't we? 😂

Didn't we confirm early on that this is not a PSU thread?  Carl says NO!

Everyone using this to justify Penn State's absence is just backfilling reasoning to make it seem better that Cael is skipping out.

Cael flatly dismissed the national duals idea when it was first being discussed. It had nothing to do with the timing of it.

You assume it had nothing to do with timing, which is actually wild if you think about it.

Here are the things we do know:

- Cael had long understood that a National Duals of any time would need to happen before the 1st of the year

- Cael has long put a priority on MFS Worlds U20, U23, and Seniors over early season events.

- Cael has long put a priority on NCAAs over B1Gs.

- Cael is big on HEW prevention, which would mean resr after each of some sort.

Timing lines up to be that many of his heavy hitters would be missing National Duals.  It is a legitimate claim, not an excuse.

What we do know are Cael's actual words when asked about a national duals. So much effort to try to make his avoidance more palatable
