I haven’t suggested an additional championship, but a change in how the team title is awarded. The current tournament format could be kept except make it for just individual titles and for qualification to the team championship event in dual tourney format. What I’m describing is almost exactly what is already in place for NCAA golf. Do I think enough people would ever get behind this idea to actually see a change? No, not with how exciting and lucrative the current h championship is. It’s still a valid thing to discuss on a msg board!

I thought there was some discussion of an NCAA sanctioned dual team championship. My comment was meant to be in that context. Pie in the sky, I know. And you may still be right about the lack of interest. Idk though, a team dual championship in that window might create some buzz for both existing fans and for those who don’t already follow the sport as closely.

I’d like to see it two weeks after the big tournament. Use the existing tournament for individual titles and as qualifying for the team championship in dual tournament format.

I kind of felt the same. Glad I was wrong. ISU not my team, but I was rooting for them today!

NCAA golf already laid out the perfect template for wrestling to follow. They still have stroke play to determine individual champs. (Compare this to individual tournaments at each weight that would crown individual wrestling champs). Then the top eight teams in stroke play advance to match play to determine the team champion. (I’d say the top four or maybe only top two teams advance to duals to crown the team wrestling champion). Basketball has expanded their postseason to include more than 64 teams. Football has obviously expanded their postseason. Similarly, one more day of wrestling the weekend after the tournament could work. I think a network would definitely grab it. Has something like this already been proposed to the NCAA?

I guess the word “National” in the name of this event is confusing people. It’s an invitational dual tournament. “Championship” is not in the name of the event. Also, comparing to football money is kinda silly. (This is my first post, by the way. I discovered the forums here a couple months ago and kept coming back.)
