And potentially Kharchla at 174, he may have a MRS if he wants it and he is entered in the US Open this year so he is not done competing.

I'll be rooting for them but another year of Paddy and Kharch...:classic_unsure:

Yeah heard he’s coming back, I thought he’d be done

Finally, someone who gets it. Someone has to be the odd man out of this, and it's going to be Thompson. This forum is filled with Merrill doubters and I don't get it.

Exactly!  Merrill is going to surprise a lot of doubters this year from what I here.  And to be honest, Thompson probably should have gone to the portal because I don't see a spot for him.  With a 12-11 record his freshman year I'm guessing he's not beating Facundo at 74 or Ryder at 84 and Merrill is to slick for him at 97.  Lastly Thompson's style is a lot like Amine, never shoots, low scoring matches.  Not the new DT style, he's best to just move on out.

DT and OSU disagree. I don't expect him to make the lineup this year either, but they very clearly wanted Thompson to stay.

If he's on their team, he isn't on someone else's.

Thompson was a shell at 174lbs.  He should have never gone that weight.  He was the best of the bunch (Arnold, Barr, Welsh, Rogotzke, etc) and I think we're going to see him in the mix at 197lbs this year.  I don't think Merrill as the starter is a given, at this point.

Yep.... they will battle it out at 197. If I had to predict, they will probably both get starts, go to opens, etc. and a decision will be made later in the season.

He didn't exactly shine this year in limited action at 184 either. A 6-2 win over the Air Force backup (3-4 record) and gave up a takedown to the UALR backup (3-8 record) before getting a pin.

He'll be given his chance to battle for a spot, but if I'm betting, I would give better odds to Ryder and Merrill.

This is the kind've stuff that makes the National Duals a great event.  Cleveland & Columbus OH good examples.  You'll get to see extra guys plugged in at weights depending on style matchups and bracket position - early rounds to late and depending on resting guys for semis & finals.   OSU will be fun to watch 133, 141, 149, 157, maybe 184 and 197.

They're very close, in regards to Wrestlestat's ratings (within 50), which is a ratings system based off of every collegiate result.  Add in room familiarity and it is definitely going to be razor close.

Looking at Michigan's lineup this year they are shaping up pretty solid

125: Sotelo

133: Ragusin

141: Lemley

149:McNeil

157: Catrabone

165: Beau

174: Brock

184: Bullock/Transfer

197: Walters/Transfer

285: Ghadiali

Is Bullock planning on staying further?

He has at least one year, potentially two.

I'm thinking we see Nini 149 and Webster 157.

I like Nini don't get me wrong.  He wrestles tough.  But I have noticed that 149 seems to be the deepest weight class right now for the transfer portal.  Illinois would be an attractive spot for many, from my perspective.  Even after McNeil and Jordan Williams made their choice there is:

Ethan Stiles

Jack Gioffre

Chance Lamer

Jesse Vasquez

Willie McDougald

John Wiley (he could make the weight)

David Evans

Nini wrestled 57/65 last year. Is he going to make that big of a cut? Is Webster planning on going up?

With the Rathjen news, and also learning that Thomsen has another year, here's what I think might be UNI's best chance.

125: Anderson
133: Land
141: Farber
149: Rathjen
157: Downey - I know he's said he'd really like to move up, but I'm ignoring that for now as that throws off everything else
165: Thomsen
174: Simma
184: Gunderson/Walrath
197: Gunderson/Walrath
285: Voelker

If Gunderson and Walrath are as good as I've heard people say, UNI could be looking at qualifying all 10 again. Quite a few team points lost in Keck, but UNI should still be pretty solid top to bottom.

UNI has been nails at 184 for the better part of a decade. Whoever it is, they're stepping into some big shoes

Yep. Gunderson wrestled McEnelly last year and lost 11-9. Walrath lost to Jersey Robb and Brock Fettig this year at open tournaments and didn't really beat anyone worth mentioning, but also had a close loss to McEnelly last year. With that, and assuming that Keck has made them better, I'm hoping they turn out to be hammers like UNI has had the last 6-7 years at 184, and one of them can go up

Gunderson has also exhibited some good wins in freestyle if I remember correctly.  Looking forward to the next chapter at UNI.  They haven't let any obstacles get in their way so far.

9 years! 3 years of Drew Foster who won it in 2019, then 1 year of Taylor Lujan who was 26-2 and won B12s before covid, and then 5 years of Keckeisen.
