I watched Cael's pre-tournament comments and have to say I am disappointed. He was asked about the Okie State program and Taylor and he completely avoided the question. Cael, why won't you recognize the coaching success of one of your own? What's going on?

Have you ever watched or listened to a Cael Sanderson interview? It's quite literally the most boring thing you can watch or listen to. He doesn't ever say anything of substance about anything. It's all coach speak.

What did you want him to say?

He could say he was happy for David's new career and wish him luck. That is what I would have expected from Cael.

13:30 for the comment.

Even for Cael this seems like a very odd answer given the question is about his first successful wrestler to become a head coach at top program.  I think his response also means we won't see a PSU vs OSU dual on the schedule anytime soon.

Disagree.  He doesn’t usually say much interesting about wrestling (he does sometimes though, like when he suggested to get rid of stalling), but you often get a sense of his dry humor. I liked during a recent press conference they asked him “what do you like about this time of year” and he started talking about fishing

I think the only thing more boring than listening to coach speak is listening to someone talk about fishing.

He didn’t really get into it, he was just joking because he said (paraphrasing) “this time of year?  Then we can talk about fishing,” and the guy was like “but but but I mean this part of the season”

The 21-16 loss to Iowa may have been below expectations for the talented new coach...Focus now is getting 10 to the quarters and a repeat for the Semi's!!!

P.S. The PSU "Train"!!!

I find it pretty disappointing that Cael basically disregarded any acknowledgement for a former athlete that has been the most notable wrestler of all of the greats during Cael's tenure. I don't expect him to hand over his playbook of how to build a college program, but he could have at least said a number of things that would have come off a lot better. It really just sounded like "David Taylor left PSU and so we don't even say his name around here anymore." If that's actually how Cael's changed his relationship with an athlete that spent 15 years with him, that is really disappointing. I would hope he'd be happy for Taylor stepping into his own program, and just see him as respected competition, not a turncoat.

I doubt that, why would Taylor create a youth club sending multiple wrestlers to PSU then?

I am skeptical that PSU would add OSU to the schedule though

They were in bed at that point. But i'll refine, Sanderson and Taylor hate each other in the same sense the Sanderson hates the brands brothers. Do they have way way way way more in common than different at a deep deep values level? Yes. Would they be great neighbors? Yes. Are they hyper competitors who loath each other for wanting the same thing, yes.
