Well that’s an interesting nugget to casually drop!

Ohio State continues to be a team that's hard to get a good read one. They didn't put all of their guys out there, but I don't know how the Buckeyes can feel anything but uneasy about its upcoming date with Penn State after the dual with IU.

Angel Escobedo doesn't have all the top talent, but his guys scrap...except DJ Washington. He does something else.

Penn State can win 9/10 if it sends everyone out.

Which version of BB do we see against Mendez? Super Beau or Beau-ring Bartlett? It was nice to see him put up some points yesterday. Also, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe Kharchla should sit this one out and save it for Big Tens. He's obviously still a little banged up and has seemed maybe a half step off this season. Usually that's good enough to win, but not against Haines.

Half step off from what previous season? His freshman year?

Yeah, first two seasons. He was sucked down, but to his credit his record reflects wrestling in a really thicc weight class... Marinelli, Caliendo, Hamiti, Amine, KOT, etc.

I'm actually very interested in the 125lb match. I expect Luke to win but McCrone is an absolute menace on top and I saw Luke get turned in high school last year.

I'm asking genuinely, who has McCrone turned of note? I just think of him riding out 3rd periods on top when he's behind.

off the top of my head

Ventresca
Renteria
Meza
Flynn
Peterson

He definitely has times where he's looking for turns and times where he is going cross body looking to ride. I think a lot of those matches where he goes top and just rides out for the loss though part of the issue is the guys on bottom just trying to not give up stalls rather than actually trying to get away.

Looking at his wrestlestat, he does put up more points than I realized. After watching Joey Cruz live on McCrone's legs, however, I think Lilledahl could major/tech McCrone if his head/hands defense is similar to that match.

Luke finishes fast which is bad news for McCrone because his neutral offense is predicated on counter points from prolonged scrambles. If he can extend Lukes's leg attacks though he is really tricky. Most likely outcome is Luke snags one or two takedowns in the first and does not even have to go under Mccrone unless McCrone picks top. I would just like to see him tested underneath.

No one else is curious why they don't wrestle 285?

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

Was the Vombaur match an outlier or is Mendez vulnerable to Bartlett in this one? I tend to look at it as an outlier match and that Vombaur is just a guy that keeps getting better but certainly not the best Jesse we have seen.

This.

No shade to Vombaur...

He usually has pretty much infallible baseline defense. Vombaur was getting to that single really easily was pretty shocking to see.
