@flyingcement...We're within the 7 day window of the PSU/IOWA dual.  I implore you to start the dual thread and list as many (maybe 40 minimum) dual themes that may present itself this Friday.  Historically this is the week of Cinnabons 60 threads

I was planning on doing my annual Iowa/PSU predictions thread but I usually start on Monday. Good way to goof off at work. Wouldn't want to waste valuable weekend time.

A couple of the PSU wrestlers looked like they had bags under their eyes prior to their matches.

I’m guessing this is their annual rough stretch.

PSU was pretty flat last night. Kasak had a semi-tough match against a guy he probably should've majored, Kerk barely beating his opponent 2-0. Maybe Carl is working the boys too hard?

Kerk can win those 1-0, 2-0 matches and not be in danger.  I would expect that gap to be wider against Slav, especially after he had a 9-0 Major in their last match.

@nhs67 Starocci was at 100% bonus last year before hurting his knee last match.

Agree with most of the takes here, but disagree completely with Kasak. That was a dominating 4-0 match.  Could have had played catch and release and got bonus?  I believe so. But when you ride a guy for over 4 minutes and don’t give up a point, I’m just not seeing that as a bad match

only head scratcher for me was Kerk. Apparently been sick. Weighed 254 a couple weeks back and 242 last night

100% is still nearly double 52%, but I acknowledge what you're saying is also true.

I don't give three deuces if Harer was 272-0 in high school (Ahem, Justin Zeerip), until you put-out against NCAA D1, or  comparable competition (MFS senior level), you aren't on the same level as a returning 3rd placer.  He beat Taylor last week via 9-3 Decision, so I would think the gap would be wider than six points, at the very least.

PSU squad was most obviously looking past a gritty Rutgers lineup to next weekend and the invasion of the Hawkeyes. I have heard the Cael, almost daily, talks up THAT dual (duels) as being the single most important date on the calendar. "Gentlemen, you are about to wrestle IOWA, never in your life will you attempt something as important as this.."  --- or so I have heard from a reputable source.

Often wrong, but never in doubt.

My understanding is the opposite.

RBY said the last thing Sanderson said to him before his first final was, "In 10 years, no one will remember this."

Then you have Mesenbrink lecturing a reporter to stop focusing on results, focus on getting better. Sounds like he is channelling a coach's message.

Conner Harer was a top 25 P4P recruit. 151-1, 3 Pa State titles his last 3 years in hs. Kasak controlled the match against a good, if young and unknown, wrestler.

I think Kasak will win the NCAA title this year, so Harer did pretty well only losing 4-0.  I had no idea his HS record was so ridiculously impressive.

Starocci with the techfellery on SCW?  Is it insane to think that a 4x champ has nearly doubled his bonus rate from last year as of now?  52% VS 100%...

To be fair, before the knee injury he had bonus wins in 10/11 matches.

I dont even know Kasak's h.s. record, but I know he lost a time or two. Kasak was Class AAA to Harer being Class AA which makes a difference. Still, Harer is good.

Kasak was really good at Bethlehem Catholic. But I think it was skipping his senior year and spending it at M2 that really took him to the next level.

Maybe he's trying to cut weight to get faster. The only guy who has beaten Gable in college was Cassar, who was a lot smaller and faster than Gable.

Or two.

LOL, that reminds me of a personal anecdote. My Fr year I wrestled 145. The coach released us for Christmas break. I watched my weight and ate responsibly and came back from the break still weighing about 145. Our 115 pounder walked up to me in the hallway between classes and told me "well I guess you have to move up to 157 pounds this week". I responded "why would I do that?". He replied "oh, well Dale (the 125 pounder) ate too much over the break and weighs 147 pounds now. I responded "screw Dale, let him wrestle 157 pounds, he's fatter than I am". 115 replied "I guess that means you'll have to rank him!!", and I said "yeah, that's how it works". That Friday I pinned Dale in about 45 seconds and he was the 157 pounder for a couple weeks, until he got down to 135 (he could beat the 135 pounder).

There is more to the story...

Dale was so disheartened that he quit wrestling. But do not worry about Dale. He had a successful career in NASCAR.

True story.

The Dale I'm talking about finished his HS career wrestling 123 pounds and went 1-2 at state. After graduation he worked at a gas station as a grease monkey for a couple decades (he apparently isn't the most ambitious man), while accruing an impressive DUI record, moved out of the state to get away from cops who were "persecuting him" and is now enjoying a carefree life in a Florida prison.
