Isn’t this one of the best u of I teams in a looong time on paper at least?   When was the last time they were in the top 10?

You are not a careful observer. You are, in fact, the old man in a loose and negligently-tied bathrobe who greets the Girl Scout selling cookies at the door of defective conclusions.

In our preview of the dual, we concluded:

The ILLINI will be underdogs in this match. We think it will take something similar to what UNI did to Nebraska in their recent dual meet.

There, the Panther train won all the close matches.

Obviously, that didn't happen. Yes, the ILLINI got swamped in this one. Congratulations to Iowa for losing two matches, getting a major upset, and winning two other matches by one point, while the ILLINI 125er just had surgery on his neck, and while the Hawkeyes won two more matches that were basically decided by a takedown.

At least we got a banger video out of all of this:

Not sure why you’re cranky about the comment.  I was asking isn’t this their best team in a long time.  It is based on the stats someone posted.  They haven’t been a top 10 threat since 2005 ish.     Your not Michael Carr irl are you?

They've actually finished in the top ten in 2012, 2013, and 2016. From 2012-2018 their worst finish was 13th, so over a seven year stretch I would say they were a top 10 threat, even though they only accomplished the feat three times. Their line-up in 2012 was really solid. Four AAs and two R12s.

125 - Delgado (7th)

133 - BJ Futrell (6th)

141 - Fanta (NQ)

149 - Terrazas (R16)

157 - No qualifier

165 - Conrad Polz (8th)

174 - Jordan Blanton (4th)

184 - Tony Dallago (R12)

197 - Mario Gonzalez (7 seed R12)

285 - No qualifier

Fair.  I can live with that line of reasoning.

There are three team heads & tails above the others.  Look at what the #3 did to the #5 last week and a month ago to the #4 in tournament.  Also what the #1 did to the #4 last night.  Dont you expect the #2 would have their way with the #13?

I just expected more out of IL.

I think the disappointment is not so much from the outcome, but the way they wrestled. Illinois' wrestlers were trailing in the third and still not willing to take a risk. It was simply uninspired wrestling.

In the PSU vs Nebraska dual, the score was equally lopsided but Nebraska at least showed up, and they were huge underdogs at many weights. 174 Pinto attacked frequently, and even gave up a reattack takedown because of it, but at least he came out and wrestled. He was active in scrambles and wrestled like he believed he could win. At 285 at least Andrews said f*** it and went for broke with the throw. Again, he tried. 133 Van Dee goes for the winn-dixie and gets it. 141 Hardy made a Beau Bartlett match either the most or second-most entertaining bouts of the night. 149 Ridge wrestled tough and came out with the win over SVN who was most people's pick going into the match.

Illinois had no urgency, no aggression, and seemed apathetic about the results of their matches.

TBH, this is a stupid argument. Rock, you missed some action and didn't have access to rewind and see what actually happened, the WKN is faulting you for a live take that missed the replay.. The call, despite my rooting for Hardy, was correct, and you two are arguing over nothing. Rock, you didn't watch the conclusive angle where Brock clearly lost riding time, and Wkn, you're arguing against someone who is justifying their position based on not seeing the replay/conclusive evidence. Sure, in real time it might have seemed like Hardy should have won, and certainly with replay and slow-mo, it was clear that albeit close, Bartlett won. Just stop.

Hard not to appreciate a level headed poster calling it like they see it. We could use more like this guy.

That sums it up quite well.

Thank you. That is all I aspire to be.
