15-0 redshirt. Unbeaten freshman start.

Iowa vs Minnesota on Feb 14 will be a good one. After what he did to Allred today, he could be closer to Keck/Starocci than any would have thought. I'm definitely more interested in see him against the top 2 now than I was this morning.

IDK Iowa has TWO  freshmen 184's who have already tweeted that they are better than starocci, and he hasn't tweeted a single thing....

Has he lost in college?  Hadn’t  seen him.  Thoroughly impressed.  Great atttacks and positioning.  Also seems perfectly sized for the weight.  He was on the verge of teching a tough Allread.

It's close, but I like McEnelly over either of Iowa's 184s.

He does look good.  Too bad he didn't attend the soldier salute.

He had the flu. You don't want a guy taking his first college loss at an open tournament when he's sick.

That's fair enough.  I was always expected to wrestle sick as a kid - even if I would lose because of the lack of energy, because the coach knew I would resist being pinned even when sick better than the backup.  My first year when I was seven, we won the league championship, I was so sick with the flu, I puked throughout the night and morning of the championships.  102 degree fever - coach bumped me up to 48 lbs and said if I don't get pinned, he thinks we will win the dual (I didn't and we did).

So in that respect, it seems silly that a young adult would prefer to protect his record when little kids are expected to step up.  But I get that it's far more intense to go through a college match with the flu than it is a youth match.

I've heard "first college loss" as an excuse for such maneuvering twice now and even though I don't disagree with the decisions in themselves thats a really absurd justification.

I wrestled with the flu at a big open tournament one year.  I didn't realize I was sick until I was in the semifinals, but by then I felt like crap.

Which elbow, and how can you wrestle with a broken elbow? That Randy Lewis type insanity.

I just looked at his record on wrestlestat. He still hasn't taken a college loss and has over 90% bonus rate as a RS Fr. Teched R12 Colton Hawks as a RS last year. Would be amazing if he went undefeated and won the NCAA title.

Re sick: had a HS teammate who was cuttin' a brick. Could never tell if he was sick or just desecated. In the Regional final, he loses in overtime for the first time in like 70 matches (he was a jr and 2x state champ). On his way off the mat, he starts puking . . . like all the way to the locker room, where he starts evacuating from both ends. He couldn't figure out whether to sit on the throne or bow to the porcelain god. His mom comes in and tries to clean him up. In the midst of his complete abasement, our hardass coach comes and tells him if he's not on that podium to get his medal, he's off the team. So, he got up, did his best to wipe the puke and sh1t off his face, hands, and warm ups, and staggered to the podium. I'm not sure if he ever forgave that coach.

Yeah that was for a big dual.  This was the Soldier Salute. A meaningless early season tournament.  This kid might be special.  Absolutely no need to wrestle with the flu not to mention how ignorant it would be to give the flu to everyone else.

That dual must have been awfully important to your coach,

Sick. We just talked about this the other day. Wrestling is such a tough ass sport, you battle weight cuts, and then you battle flu season. My middle son lost in the finals of state one year, and he looked like crap the entire day. He said he was not feeling good, and of course I am telling him he is fine, it is just nerves etc. Little sucker ended up having pneumonia. Dad of the year stuff right there.

It may have been two broken elbows and busted knee or maybe two busted knees and a broken elbow 🙅‍♀️ only the minnow knows for sure.

Well, take off the last part of my quote and just leave it as "He had the flu".  The Gophers scratched 13 guys at the last minute.  If they had the same bug I had that week, I wouldn't have considered getting out of my chair, let alone wrestling in an unnecessary open tournament.
