If you listen to FRL, Ben Askren has said for the last three years that once Peyton Mocco graduates (one of KOT's best friends) that KOT was planning to go 174 all along. Askren even hyped the potential of KOT going up into Starocci's weight before it was known that Starocci would be moving to 184. So I would assume everyone in college wrestling knew that last year was Keegan's last year at 165.

I'd love to see Starocci wrestle KOT! For the record, I think KOT is better.

Actually I'm flying AA so can just cancel and use the flight $ later.  Dissapointing cause also had a hammer fest machine shed pickleball match set up against some local youngsters, done so the last 3 trips into Stilly.   I think I'll do it and book my flight to Iowa.  Shirley the hawkeyes will show up for their own home dual at CHA ... although hawks & chickens are related ...

Ah, that's better at least. Like you said, No KOT in the matchup would really take the wind out of the sails. Mizz is down pretty hard this year compared to normal.

Can KOT get a medical and $5M from Iowa next year?  Asking for a friend BA.

Get this man his bread. Unfortunately, Ben has made his thoughts on Iowa clear, and I don't know that KOT would cross the picket line, even for the right amount of dough.

He would be a fool not to, and they would be fools to offer it.

So I wonder if this means Rocky is done done, or if he’s coming back next year…

I’ve heard rumblings he at least considered medical retirement around the same time as Surtin announced his. Could still happen I’d guess, but who knows.

Ben has a business mind. If they made it 10m, he would likely encourage the transaction and suggest young Keegan invest in bitcoin immediately. Then we could all watch as they ride the ship to the moon.

If that's the case, that's too bad. I love Smith and Missouri and especially after KOT and Rocky won Jr Worlds, I was hoping they would bring home a trophy to MIZZ. I don't pay that much attention to the 2nd through 4th each year, but I'm assuming the tigers haven't brought home a trophy during the KOT and Rocky years?

They have not, best finish is 5th during their time.

So how does this work? Rocky is going to miss the season, he has a regular RS he has not taken as of yet. He could possibly get a MRS this year. Is it possible he actually could comeback for 2 more years? If so I don’t believe he would. Also does he move up to HWY? If he comes back at 197, one of Hawks or Sinclair doesn’t make the lineup as I don’t either making 174.

Well its been suggested the TX qb could get $6M for jumping in the portal.  For a guy (or gal) with $1B in assets earning 5% that's $50M per year.  Wkn says $1M is "less foolish" and we know we got some less foolish folk out there.  $1M, $10M, $50M to a multi billionaire is just kind've rounding error. If you could get KOT and it fits the 3d chess plan for taking out PSU then why not go big time stupid?  🥴

Mizzou has been banged up every year for the last 5, if not longer. Yet no one is suggesting Smith and his archaic training methods should be banished

Came here looking for this.

Also...hate to ask it but we have to leave room for these being cough [payme!] cough injuries.

I haven't heard anybody bragging about Mizzou's bankroll, and obviously ASU losing theirs led to near total dissolution of their roster.

I’ve read a couple times on the Iowa board that Rocky would be a perfect portal fill in at 197 for them next year. I blew it off before today. Not saying it will happen, but I’m not blowing it off any longer.

I highly doubt O'Toole would leave, but he would have to qualify for a medical RS to wrestle next year. I know the medical RS have been given out pretty liberally, but I assume the injury would have to be documented as pretty serious to justify ending this season and not just using a nagging injury as a way to hold out and get paid next year.

Maybe, but his injury issues (whatever they are) are real and have been ongoing for a couple of years. If they are going to pay a 197 to transfer, it would be safer to chase a healthier option.

Regardless, I hope we keep Sinclair in RS. This year's a complete bust and he is a Rd 12/boarderline AA guy. I don't see the upside.

Cassett is the only other 197 that has wrestled this year as far as I know beyond Sinclair. We lack depth in the upper weights. As much as I’d hate to punt a year, this definitely is a year to do it. How it reflects on recruiting is yet to be seen. Hopefully not much. But I do wonder if Rocky come back how it effects the lineup for next year. Sinclair I would imagine would not want to ride the bench for 2 years. We do need him in the lineup honestly.
